Met a bunch of Ajax fans last week over from Holland and they were quite downbeat about the standard of the Dutch League.
Told me it’s been on the decline for a few years and too many young Dutch players are moving abroad too early in their careers and then not getting picked at bigger clubs.
I can’t comment on how true that is but i do watch a lot of German football and the standard in Bundesliga 2 and 3 is not great. Even in the top division, the only team that would trouble the Prem’s top six would be Bayern.
I only say this because I see Norwich have signed another load of Germans this week.
Now they may turn out to be bargains but there’s no guarantee.
One thing I do know about German football is if there is a really good player coming through, the Bundesliga clubs will know all about them.
Their reserve teams play in Div 3 or the regional divisions so they see these guys and snap them up young.
I’d hazard a guess if anyone truly decent is plying their trade in the lower leagues of Germany, they would have gone to a Bundesliga club not Norwich. | | | |
