Seems pretty risky for Stoke - appointing someone who has never won promotion, never had the budgets Stoke will have this season.

Less so if he got them promoted though. This forum would implode.

I find this a very strange appointment. Whilst Lambert didn't manage to keep them up, surely he's a just the same as Rowett.....or perhaps better?

Should have just stuck with the previous manager if this was their 'Ace' card.

Baffling.

Another club who haven’t undertaken thorough due diligence for 3 months. They'll be getting ‘the wrong man’. Tsk, when will they learn eh?

I agree but I think it is an easy mistake for them to see a club that has performed better than previous years, just missed out on promotion through the play-offs and think give him a bigger budget he will do better.

It is the sort of mistake most clubs make when they come down and think they are better than everyone else in the league.

I wouldn't even care. All their fans who called us cloggers, hoofers, dirty bastards, talentless, etc etc and thought they were a much bigger and better club than us just because they played better football would have a breakdown if they ended up with Mick.

Them getting promoted with Mick would then only enhance their reputation across the country as a long ball physical side, winding them up even more

That was when he thought he could get Derby up and Stoke were coming down.

He is better off now than being in Lambert's position.

Agree- thought there was an unnecessary fuss about his time at Birmingham. He got them moving quickly in the right direction, no doubt, but didnt go much further than that.

Hard to argue that Rowett hasn't done badly at any of the clubs he has managed though.

Blimey, Stoke City don't hang about!!!

Fans want results & success. Hoofball was happily accepted by the majority here during our play-off push.

I'm sure the Derby fans will accept it if promotion happens within 2 seasons, or at least he makes the play-offs in his first year.

If he can suck up his pride & accept dropping into L1, I think Barnsley would be a great option for him. Get promoted from L1 into The Championship, give it one season & see where he is after then.

Didn't get Derby into the playoffs with a very decent budget

When he took over from Steve McClaren at Derby in March 2017 they were 10th on a poor run of form, that doesn't give him long to turn things around. This season they have finished in the play offs. There have been other managers that have struggled at Derby with similar budgets, but I bet most of their supporters would accept play offs most seasons which he has achieved. What he did at Birmingham City was impressive too, look who has managed them since and they have been nowhere near what he achieved at St Andrews.
