As someone who has been racially insulted numerous time in my almost forty years on this planet I can reassure you that it isn’t simply a case of having to man-up. Being racially abused is degrading, humiliating and utterly depressing. Thankfully it has never really happened in a regular basis but when it has happened it’s awful. Such abuse - which I’m guessing can be regarded as a hate-crime in itself - isn’t just words which can be forgotten. The whole ‘names will never hurt me’ is complete rubbish.
Maybe as an Anglo-Saxon Male you find it hard to show empathy towards minorities but others on here do. Maybe you just don’t care.
Not that long ago you received a lot of sympathy and offers of support from various different posters on here include many who don’t necessarily share your outlook on life. Imagine if you simply received abuse instead. Imagine if instead of support you had people mocking you for reasons you couldn’t help and imagine how degraded you’d feel. That is how it will feel to be a victim of an hate crime. Now imagine words turned into violence and you were left scared to venture out of your own home - instead finding confort in your own community based on ethnicity. It’s not nice.
That’s why hate crime isn’t something to snigger about or simply say ‘balls’ to. Maybe you think I’m overrating, and that’s your progrative but sometimes you simply have to show empathy. |  | | |

Yeah, that just isn't true though. Politically you align yourself with the likes of Benters, who is pretty far right of centre. So to you guys the Beeb seems left because the centre ground is really quite far to the left of your own politics. The reality is that the Beeb is pretty much in the centre, on some issues they are slightly to the right, on others they are slightly to the left. On the whole, though, politically, socially and economically they don't stray far from the centre ground. | |
