Towen to Dundee 14:02 - Nov 6 with 5483 views | wkj | I noticed 2 routes pop up on maps, one routes through the peak district via Glasgow, the other goes via Newcastle and over the forth bridge - Which one is the better route if you've done such a drive. Many thanks

Towen to Dundee on 14:17 - Nov 6 with 2916 views | Harry_Palmer | Toss of a coin really wkj, I have been both ways and there is not a lot in it really. I usually prefer the A1 via Newcastle but last time I went this way I got held up considerably around Edinburgh on the approach to the bridge so if I was going tomorrow I would probably choose the M6 Glasgow route. Hope this helps.
Towen to Dundee on 14:18 - Nov 6 with 2910 views | WeWereZombies | Might depend on the time of day but my route would be: A14 up to Huntingdon to pick up A1 A1 to just beyond Scotch Corner to pick up B road to Piercebridge B6275 to pick up A68, little right, left jink at top of Piercebridge A68 all the way to Edinburgh bypass, lovely country A720 etc. to go over the lovely Forth Bridge Carry on up the M90 to Perth, if St. Johnstone are playing at home you might even get to see Nydam A90 to Dundee and the new V&A Don't try and do it all in one go, there is stuff worth stopping for.

was in the thread title wan't it. OK. My route would be: A14 to the Midlands M6 All the way to the border M6 becomes the M74 once you hit Scotland M74 to Glasgow M80 to Stirling A9 to Perth A90 to Dundee So you are on motorway/duel carriageway all the way there until just before Dundee. Make sure you take the M6 Toll to avoid B'rum. It's well worth six quid as it will save you an hour. The A1 to Newcastle is always full of roadworks and tailbacks and Newcastle to Edinburgh is a very slow drive with parts being a norma one lane A road.

Sadly that is not an option seems as i am there for 2 weeks. The cost of a hire car + flight comes to considerably more than the petrol and ware and tare. Thanks for suggestions, i will be more or less doing a 1 shot red eye up there, but may plod home Edit: Not to mention carrying a load of computer equipment and booth stuff [Post edited 6 Nov 2018 14:30]

Towen to Dundee on 14:31 - Nov 6 with 2858 views | Binner | As lorry drivers we would usually go up A1 to Scotch Corner then across A66 to Penrith then up M6r, M74 etc.But keep an eye out for delays as A14 M6 can be quicker in some circumstances.

Very scenic but it would take him ages to get there with your route. He should get there in about 7 to 8 hours with my route.

Yeah. The A66 can be a pain at this time of the year. I can't understand why they have never made it dual carriageway from Penrith to Scotch corner .

M6 toll only usually saves maybe 5 mins though can be more in peak periods. There are huge long stretches of roadworks on M6 between Birmingham and Manchester.

Towen to Dundee on 15:08 - Nov 6 with 2756 views | Pinewoodblue | It depends what day of the week, and what time you intend to leave Ipswich. If you have an up to date Sat Nave with full live traffic coverage just follow instructions. Avoid M6, at least up to Preston, at all costs on a Friday.

I haven't gone on the M6 through B'rum since they built the toll road but before they did I've been in hour long tailbacks from the Wolverhampton junction (12 or 13?) to the South of B'rum. Hence I always use the toll.

The point of this is to avoid seeing Hoppy at Christmas, why would I then spend it with another TWTD'er

A bit drastic to avoid Hoppy methinks. Just start wearing ladies clothes, he won't know it's you then. (I have just had a weird thought and realised you may wear women's clothes all the time anyway).

I am fairly progressive as Spruce knows, but I'm not all the way liberal yet.

'I'm not all the way liberal' If you are bringing politics into it, definitely don't call in on Glasgowblue!

I tend not to talk politics in person, so we're all safe - I have a feeling most of the die hards on the board would probably be quite similar in the sense of having normal conversations in person. Not saying politics isn't normal, but it seems much more appealing in asynchronous conversation than in real time.
