Any hairdressers on here? 22:20 - Feb 20 with 4775 viewsLord_Lucan

I'm thinking about a transformation.

Ever since I lost my wedge with a step and started going a bit bald (many years ago) I have shaved my bonce but I do tend to look like a bit of a loony madman.

I'm considering growing my hair and adding a loose perm to look like a bit of a spasticated old hippy (I am a hippy at heart - with Mod overtones - it's very confusing) but I'm wondering how long the hair growth will take from zero to say bottom of the neck length?

I'm guessing this is where they got the hair from, hence the issues.

Or, I suppose, it could be that he was so pleased with his head, that he has decided to add a little bit extra down there.

Two for one offer. Nailed.

Hey Lucan, okay I'll fess up. I own and run my own Hair Salon so am quite willing to be the board's hair styling guru.

If you, or anyone else wants any advice I'd be glad to help but before we get that far a couple of points ...

1. In my experience, if someone looks like a loony madman they generally are !

2. If you are thinking of having a perm you probably need to see a psychologist not a Hairdresser.

This thread has serious potential.

Mates who have been shaving for years have tried to grow back and it’s patchy as anything especially over the top and even more so if it is clean shaven all the time

A few of my black mates used to use a hair growth cream as there’s was always a bit patchy so may help - but I’d be amazed, give it a few weeks and see if it grows out evenly

Maybe they've just become naturally balder? Sounds like correlation rather than causation.

We have a hair salon owner on the thread (good fess Urbers) now someone needs to admit to working in the R&D department at some horrendous cosmetics giant.

I'd say about eight months to a year.

Took me about 8 months a few years back, but my head wasn't shaves so would say about a year from skinhead.

I would add that you'll have to prepare yourself for some really awkward in-between styles as it grows out. Perhaps get yourself some hats to wear for those stages.

Hair grows on average about a centimetre a month. Maybe a bit more in summer when Keratin from sunlight helps.

There is that old adage that trimming it regularly makes it grow faster. That is not true. It will still grow at the same speed. However, it should still be trimmed as by nipping off the ends it 'seals' the hair helping prevent splitting. Growing hair that is not trimmed will often 'split" on the ends eventually disintegrating resulting in the hair shortening (and looking sh1t).

I have to say UB the thought of the in between hairstyles is filling me with dread, also it has to be said that women love a shaved bonce

1cm a month eh? That's not a lot is it.

I am going to have a rethink.

As for the perm, I'll have you know that when I was a young cool cat I had a full on Kevin Keegan, every morning I had to warm up a jar of coconut oil and liberally massage it into my flock of curls. I have to say I looked outstanding.

Have you looked into transplants?

Mind you, they do look a bit painful and I'm not sure how the aftercare plan works, if there is one.

Can't you go for that and let me know how it goes?

#askingforafriend

So Norwood's transplant, he only got the front done surely? Does the rest of the hair behind this not continue to recede at the same rate as before? Doesn't this mean he could end up with a haircut in the same style as Ronaldo at the 2002 world cup?

Demi Wave is still a perm. Very soft curl as opposed to tight. I haven't done a perm for years and generally only the salons with a quite elderly clientele still do them.

Seeing Lucan sitting in an 'Old Biddy" salon with perm rods in would be worth paying a lot of money for!! I think you should sort it for him ABB.

Yep, I had a perm a la Kevin Keegan back in the day too. We were a tribe eh!

Get yourself a good hairstyle from someone who knows what they are doing. Ask for a fade from very short at the back and sides through to about an inch long on top (If you have enough hair). Classic smart short back and sides. Definitely no straight line at the nape. That's for the army. You want a fade from nothing working with your hairline.

Use a Matt Clay. No gel or wet look. Matt clay will make your hair look thicker.

I cannot stress enough find a GOOD Barber/stylist. If you see someone with a good hairstyle ask them who did it. Actual person, not salon. Once the same name comes up a few times go for it. Stick with one. We get to know someones hair and any quirks over time. Makes for a good maintained style.

Don't scrimp on cost. It amazes me that people will p1ss money away on stuff/clothes etc and then look for the cheapest haircut. They scrimp on one thing that can make them look and feel so much better.

Do all this and you WILL be a dude ....

.... or you could just get a perm for the crack!

Thanks for the info although I fear that as an impatient man I may not go through with it all - we shall see. I'll ask the wife for her opinion, if she hates the idea then I'll do it.

Pint of Wine Paul was a barber but we remain estranged.
