Some expert knowledge on Covid 12:40 - Mar 16 with 3277 viewshampstead_blue

Well worth a read.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

The government line is currently in real time utterly contradicting this post though.

Have you sussed out you can't trust the Tories yet? Please say yes?

Not sure I agree.
The tweet is also politically agnostic.

I'd say that Jim is trying to stop people flapping and listen to the Gov scientists. After all, he's worked alongside them at Porton Down.

For the umpteenth time the actions are based on the advisers who are the same as Labour would have had access to.

You are essentially saying that you would have wanted Labour to ignore the chief medical offer and chief scientific adviser. That's an interesting stance to take.

I am sure that if the Tories had have ignored those two and it became public knowledge you'd be all over it.

Are you the guy in the tweet? There are some similarities. Just wondering.

Pronouns: He/Him/His. "Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."

Advice is not neutral though, Stokie. You don't know what questions have been asked of the advisers. I think it's naive to think that the government just rocks up to its advisers, shrugs, and asks them to take the lead.

No. I love tanks though. Very big, growly, and with a huge gun!

I was Int Corps and then transferred to the RAMC, Combat Medic. I was also a soldier, none of that Officer filth!

I do know him, he's a mate and a properly top bloke. Puts his team first always.

Correct, well kind of but the context isn't quite what he means and I agree with.

His point is that we should follow the Gov line and ignore prigs on Celeb TV.

Jim's credentials are stated to give credibility to his point. I know him and he is so far away from some of the unkind comments made.

It's pretty blatantly you. You got a few likes and retweets on twitter from like minded folk and thought you'd chance your arm on here by posting it up. All very odd.

As a 'friend' you should advise him to not profess to be an expert on things in which he lacks expertise. Good advice to give yourself that as well.

Perhaps some truth in that but I suspect most of it is driven by what they get told. It's too serious a situation for it not to be and they would be held to account later if that wasn't the case. If they were to say "yeah, that said that but I thought I knew better" they would be for it.

It also doesn't mean that posters need to go around the board all day trying to score weird political points at a very serious time.

Fair enough, I just think the "they're just following expert advice" line is also a bit of a cop out though. These are still ultimately political decisions and we don't know the parameters within which expert advice is being sought.

Was about to say the same thing. For all we know the brief could have been "do a science now but do it with the least economic damage possible."

Not to say that did or didn't happen, but it shows how you can get an expert to craft anything in your favour with the right instructions or limitations. I've seen this happen many times in the work place.

Not necessarily wholly true. The CMO, CSA and civil service expertise would probably be the same with any government. But this government are also paying a lot of heed to ‘nudge theory’ from the now privatised, part-Govt owned, former Behavioural Insights Team. It’s this nudge theory that’s had a major impact on shaping our response so far (although as of Boris’ announcement earlier that now looks to be abandoned/changed)..

Nb. Apparently there is no “published evidence showing that applying nudge theory to something like coronavirus is empirically accurate”:

Not sure about any of that to be honest. Comparisons to the Spanish Flu are nearly pointless given different vectors, incubation periods, r0 and mortality rate. They also don't factor in improvements in modelling and medicine.

There was also a rather large war going on during the Spanish flu outbreak.

You just like it because it's a military person who is supporting your view.

Hasn’t war basically ended?
