It's a great shame isn't it? The old shaking hands with the dog is a lovely trick. Long leads now, Lesta...

The Government advice does allow for getting exercise, even if you have the virus. And the dogs need it: 'If you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms that may be caused by coronavirus, then household members must stay at home and not leave your house for 14 days (more information in the ending self-isolation section below). If possible, you should not go out even to buy food or other essentials, other than exercise, and in that case at a safe distance from others.' https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-a

None of us are showing any symptoms, are not in high risk groups and will be working from home all week so the only other people we will see are our spouses. We're not sharing cars and are capable of maintaining a couple of metres between us, the dogs can socialise quite happily off the lead as they're both well trained. Wont be stopping in a pub like we would normally do so I can't see the issue.

That's very urban-centric advice though. Being out in the wild open spaces is the safest place to be.

If you look at what France are doing, you're allowed out but not with friends/groups. It has to be on your own. I'd say that's a pretty good place to start give our advice isn't specific around going with company. [Post edited 21 Mar 2020 9:15]

Here's a simple rule for people who think anything is not clear. If in doubt, err on the side of caution. Society may suffer if you don't.
| The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it.

Having spent a couple of hours unconscious on a Scottish hillside at a couple of thousand feet in November once I would advise on some sort of 'buddy system', if I had not come around on that Monday afternoon I reckon it could have been the next weekend before I, or rather my corpse, was found. OK, not everyone will be tooling around in remote glens but if people are not 100% to start with I would be happier for them to go out in pairs; at a safe distance of course.
