Ah, it's started... on 13:42 - May 13 by Vaughan8 | Wow. I don't think I've said anything remotely personal or called names. I've just been a little sarcastic. Maybe I'm not explaining myself. I'm not on here all the time and don't read all past threads. I didn't know about any personal situations. I apologise if I've offended you. I just didn't really like the Daily Mail headline. |
It's all in this thread, I haven't posted on the site for just over a year until the start of this month, you've missed nothing, ironically you just jumped the gun somewhat. [Post edited 13 May 2020 14:05]

Ah, it's started... on 12:08 - May 13 by GlasgowBlue | I dint think it’s fair to say Libby has an agenda. He’s self admitdkt left leaning but is usually fair and balanced in what he posts. He has worked in a sector that has suffered because of a long period of austerity so he therefore has genuine concerns. I’d like to think those concerns are unwarranted but they are understandable. As Libby leans to the left, I lean to the right, although we are probably a lot closer in social issues rather than fiscal. He and I could debate that the period of austerity that we suffered would have taken place regardless of who won the 2010 general election as Labour promised the same programme of cuts due to the global financial crisis. Those cuts wouldn’t have been delivered as fast or with the same relish, but they’d have been delivered nine the less. As Lowhouse said earlier, this is a completely different scenario and should be treated as a one off event. And as !ibby and DK has said it’s an opportunity to think outside the box. |
I just want to take issue with the line "Labour promised the same programme of cuts due to the global financial crisis." No they didn't, and we've been through this before. They promised cuts but not anywhere near the extent of the Tories. Please stop repeating this lie.

This is why people have trouble getting into a debate with you and find better things to do. Your use of inflammatory language was disproportionate to the conversation. I didn’t repeat lies. I may be mistaken, and if I have time I’ll check the 2010 manifestos*, but it was my belief that both Osborne and Darling promised roughly the same amount of cuts (with an approximate annual budget of £850 billion I just know that there is a difference of a couple of billion then you’ll spend ten pages of pendants) but the main difference was the timing of when they were introduced. I also don’t believe you and I have discussed this subject before. I believe you are mistaken rather than lying. What we did discuss was that your man Jezza committed to keeping £7billion of the Tories £9billion of welfare cuts had he won the 2017 general election. I remember this conversation with you very well but have no recollection of the other. *If I don’t get time and forget to check the two manifestos, I’m not swerving. I’m just letting life take over.

Fine, i accept your mistake rather than lie, and I apologise for calling it so. I personally don't consider "a couple of billion" pedantry. A couple of billion is a hell of a lot of money. But maybe that's just me.

general tax rises would be madness in a recession. the covid-19 fiscal deficit just needs to be put down as 100 year debt or written off through qe. anything else would macroeconomic lunacy.
| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |

I am expecting an artificially created increase in inflation alongside the continued low interest environment to inflate the debt and my savings away! https://econ.economicshelp.org/2011/11/inflating-away-our-debt.html [Post edited 14 May 2020 10:26]
