No holidays to Holland (or Greece and Spain) on 10:17 - Jun 4 by GlasgowBlue | Surely we should be encouraging people to holiday in the U.K. and boost the economy? |
If they were trying to look after the British hospitality and tourism sector they wouldn’t have introduced this absolutely bonkers quarantine that makes no sense at all.

Yep, and that’s all they care about. Populism in action, even if it costs jobs. Patrick Vallance came fairly close to open criticism in the daily conference when asked about it too.

I got a bit of stick from certain posters for suggesting that the Government had strictly followed the scientific advice given by SAGE, and the recently released minutes show that to be absolutely true. The rush to end lockdown however has been completely at odds with SAGE advice and political decisions have been made for no other reason that I can see other than to "own" the "recovery". It's like the Brexit process post 2016 where rather than working with all sides the Tory party wants to be seen as the heroes" in all of this.

You put a bit of personnel spin on some of the minutes you posted. Contrast the use of the word “advise”, in one set of minutes, and the lack of that word in other minutes. Your use of the word “strictly” is also not backed up by the minutes. Certain things SAGE suggested should be communicated, wasn’t.

No holidays to Holland (or Greece and Spain) on 15:13 - Jun 4 by GlasgowBlue | I know Durdle Door really well and was amazed to see the beach crowded. I’ve been there in the middle of July and been one of a handful of families in the beach. Usually loads of sightseers and walkers but never seen the beach busy. What was Weymouth like in the same day? |
Yes, you're quite right, Durdle Door can get busy but mainly the stretch between the Door and Lulworth Cove. The actual beach a DD is never 'jammed' like it was on the weekend. Incredibly, the day after those 4 lads received life changing injuries/or died, there were hundreds more on the beach there and more lads jumping! Weymouth wasn't too bad, better than Bournemouth which was busier than a normal hot day during the summer holidays. No social distancing there at all. Weymouth has a sandy beach, that was sensible. The other end is the locals end, and stony. There were people there, but you had 10-15 metres to yourself. Folk are starting to get quite angry at being invaded by people 2-3 hours away. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8375701/Moment-idiot-tombstoner-hurls-2 [Post edited 5 Jun 2020 23:04]

It won't be long before "Grockles Go Home"* starts being spray painted on the walls. *Not sure if this is still a thing but it was back in my day. I was born and raised in Weymouth.

Ah were you!! What year did you leave? Grockles is still a thing.
No holidays to Holland (or Greece and Spain) on 23:19 - Jun 5 with 1108 views | syntaxerror | Its purely for economic reasons. Spend your money at Butlins and Centre Parks guys and girls, not some Covid filled Greek or Spanish beach. Think of all those diseased Germans possibly infecting your family. It helps the economy and boosts our Brexit future. And if you get ill, should have gone to Barny Castle.

I left when I was 10 in 1974. Although I used to spend my teenage years there during the summer holidays as a family friend owns the Clifton Hotel and pub and I had a summer job there. Still get back when I can and have family there. Was due down next month for the Sea Food Festival (I hate seafood but the Mrs Lives it) but it’s been postponed for obvious reasons.

Yes, as soon as I can get out of UK, I'm off! Far less chance of catching Covid in France or Spain.

Best chance of catching it would be the flight there?
