I’m having a look through various photos and videos from the UK protests over the weekend, there’s some really powerful and moving images and unlike most “awareness” campaigns I’m pretty sure this is going to create real change in public mindset as well as tangible change moving forwards for BAME people.
However, I can’t look at the protests in London in particular without feeling a queasy discomfort at the closeness of proximity of so, so, so many people in one place.
I fully support everyone’s right to protest, I’m right behind the movement and I understand why those who are angry are justifiably angry but I am concerned about the potential of a second peak being accelerated by the sheer number of people and the closeness of proximity between them.
It’s a bit difficult for me to square away that anxiety without feeling like I’m being a bit subversive. Is it reasonable?

Ask yourself why there was violence in London where there was a heavier police presence than in any other city across the UK?
Also ask yourself why is the media only talking about the violence at the London protests and not the largely peaceful protests that happened elsewhere?
I think the media have been pretty light on the violence and that to be honest

It's literally on every national media website and in the papers, yet I see hardly any articles about the peaceful protests that happened around the UK.

yeah to think some people are trying to make out that its all turned violent. you will almost get clashes at big demos. i mean some people got violent at a march when they were going to lose the right to hunt a poor fox.
forensic experts say footers and spruces fingerprints were not found at the scene after the weekends rows

I attended the protests in Sheffield on Saturday and will be attending any further protest that happen in the city.
Everyone in attendance was peaceful and most were wearing masks. There was also very little police presence which helps massively to keep these protest peaceful.
People complaining about violence at the protests in London need to look at the protest that happened across the UK and ask why there was more violence when there was a heavier police presence?
The only police I saw in Ipswich were in their cars before the actual protest. Didn't see any at all at the protest and it was peaceful without a hint of trouble.
I just realised that the racist comment posted by Felstow1978 in this thread has had his post removed.
I think it's a shame, these people can't help but out themselves and removing the content only serves to allow them to slink back off in to the shadows until the next time they want to share their bile.

Rightly removed in my opinion

As the post and all those condemning it have been removed the comment essentially doesn't exist to anyone who didn't see his ignorant statement . He wasn't banned for the statement so simply removing it just gives him cover until the next time he decides to make a similar comment
When someone makes a tit of themselves like that and is put right by people it should be left there as an example that the forum doesn't stand racism.
Depending on the individual it also helps contextualise the posters other insipid comments moving forwards or puts a new light on borderline comments made historically by the poster.

I didn't think I would get a down vote from such a woke individual as yourself for supporting the removal of a comment like that ...
Only divs use the word 'woke man ffs. You need to catch up with the latest alt-right trends!
Pronouns: He/Him/His.

It's ridiculous, I've obviously got under the poor flower's skin.
I don't buy into the terminology and most people who fall into the "woke" category would have probably caned me because in my original post I expressed concern at the potential negative repercussions of so many people gathering in the current climate.
