Liverpool’s season - perhaps a lesson for Lambert ! 08:57 - Jun 26 with 2563 views | ArnieM | Liverpool have won the Premier League at a canter : good on ‘em and they really do deserve the crown. But if ever there was a message for Lambert to take away from this it’s that Liverpool have EIGHT players that have played every single game, (31 games). So Paul, lets put this rotation crap to bed for the coming season shall we!

Our squad should have been in the play offs at least. I dont think we had two first teams though.

Firmino, VVD, Alexander-Arnold, but only VVD has actually started every one. Although there are 8 players who have played in 27 or more league games.

I think this is the great unsayable for Lambert. The McCarthy players are either on the wane or so knackered through lengthy injury breaks as to be unreliable now. There isn’t a single one of Hurst’s signings with the possible exception of Jackson that could be described as indispensable to the team’s prospects. Lambert’s own signings featured one diamond whose absence from October onwards knackered us and a striker who played with injury all season, not forgetting the fact that he mucked around his own goalkeeper for reasons which, as Jimmy Walker’s interview in today’s EADT confirms, remain unclear. And the kids are still the kids. We hope for the best, naturally, but it’s not like they’re the Class of ‘92 and even if they are, that generation was fed in alongside Pallister, Keane and Cantona. Pity poor Brett McGavin looking in vain for support from Jon Nolan. I think Lambert knows all this, but it’s hard to sell yourself as the architect of a great rebuild when you’ve been relegated without a fight and then screwed up any chance of promotion from the third tier due to two separate capitulations from the top of the division. But you know what their team is when everyone is fit Allison Trent Gomez VVD Robertson Henderson Wijnauldum Milner/Fabinho/Ox Salah Firmino Mane Obviously there have been injuries along the way, but when even non Liverpool fans can recite their team with ease then it's clear they are very settled

That knocked the stuffing out of us prior to the busy Christmas period and we never recovered mentally. Our squad lacked the necessary fitness and stamina to compete at their best during that period and any advantage we had in quality was useless against the more seasoned League One opponents. At that point you need to stick with a solid spine in the first team and rotate around it, if you must.
