The practice pitch did have floodlights. In the fifties at Grammar school in Bury the sports master used to give you one of his magazines if you did well and the Ipswich floodlights were part of an advertisement.

In those days, under the Cobbolds we were a forward looking club and the floodlights were a money spinner. As you came out of the old West Stand the wooden pillars were very prominent.

Not floodlights as in the corner in the picture in the OP it didn't.

More like street lights.

according to various online sources he is alive and well now lives in Alicante, Spain.

Having retired from football he won a Spanish Bowls Championship in 1995.

I can caption that picture

Sir John is saying "Lambert out'

only he is probably using words that wouldn't get passed the TWTD naughty word list

More likely...

"Sorry about the crowd getting on your back. Here... have five more years and a pay rise".

The one to the left is Andy Nelson, Centre Half during the Div 1 winning season. The other is Jimmy Forsyth - he of the magic sponge.

Nelson was a hard player and went on to become a hard manager. He was Charlton manager for most of the 70s and got them promoted.

Here he is with Ray Crawford a couple of years ago. Am pleased to report he was a really top bloke.

Great photo.

I met Ray Crawford and Ted Phillips after a game at home to Portsmouth in 2000 in the Centre Spot. Both brilliant men.
