He's a very intense bloke and I'd love to be part of the coaching sessions.

The first day will be on your 'pre-ball ritual'......

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

The key lime in that article is:

“All three are former Edgbaston colleagues of England director of cricket Ashley Giles.”

So the best 3 ppl in the whole world available to England right now.....ahead of a match at Old Trafford....are 3 of Giles mates from Warwickshire!?!?

Not so sure about Patel but he may be a very good coach. As a player he was bang on forgettable.

I also think it might be due to the bio bubble requirements. Collingwood and others are with the white ball squad so they may be short of coaches.

Would prefer to see Tuffers there. On TMS he has proven to be a very astute cricket thinker. I do enjoy his insights. Much removed from the stereotype.......

Tuffers has always played up to his image, even in his playing days, he's actually got a decent cricket brain and probably would have made a decent captain if people could ignore the other stuff, which they never would have of course and rightly so.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Tuffers wouldn't have done so well if he wasn't a whip smart and talented cricketer. As for 3 mates 2 of them played through a very successful period of English. I'd like to see a bloke who occupied the crease help the top order and giving advice to our current top 5 which is flaky to say the least.

Tufnell is like Swann though, and maybe even Warne, perhaps its something about being a spinner working out batsmen to get them out, they all have really good cricket brains and can explain it when they arent playing the class comic relief. I remember reading Tufnells biography years ago and yeah he came across again as someone who knew how to play cricket, and you dont get picked by Middlesex if you arent cricket smart, but he never had that seriousness in his character to be more than he was.

As for coaches at this level, sorry Im old school thinking on this, by the time you are being picked to play cricket for your country, you dont need coaching anymore, you should already know what you need to, thats why youve been picked in the first place, all you need actually is the support to bring the best out of you, can Trott really do that ? not convinced from how he spent his time in the middle batting he was ever settled enough in his own game to know what support others might need.

and fwiw why is the selector picking the coaches, and not the actual head coach ?

Jobs for the boys?

I'm pretty sure the government apply the same logic to all these contracts they like to dish out to private companies with seemingly little due diligence applied

Tax payers money going to someone else to run things they were elected to be in charge of

G4S, Serco et al, have what you like

Give the probation service a crack
Give Test, Track and Trace a crack
Anyone fancy having a ferry company
Satellites anyone?
How about a dodgy paint job for our plane?
Hey local authorities, say goodbye to your schools
PPE, who wants some, we do but you sell it for us
Who wants the Royal Mai, oh wait we have already sold that
Regional Rail monopoly, who wants this one?
Who wants a big piece of a bank we bailed out at a knock down cost

The list goes on and on and yet people keep voting for these Muppets

The level of incompetence is mind blowing!

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Said it before and I will say it again, we have gone from Strauss and Bayliss to Giles and Silverwood - let that sink in.... talk about Premier League to Conference.....say no more - it is all jobs for the boys.

Giles was the definition of England cricket in the early 2000's - tried, used as a defensive option but nowhere near good enough. Was a poor England ODI coach..... did ok at county level but then so did Peter Moores who was equally a disaster.

They had an obsession of picking an English coach and not the best man...... should have been Gary Kirsten all day long.
