Germany proposing a law to make it compulsory for dog owners to walk their pooches for at least 2 hrs a day.
Depends on the age and breed of the dog, surely.
Thoughts fellow dog owners.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

You've got him/her trained to fetch kindling for your woodburning stove? Impressive!

While we're on the subject of 'fetch', I'll just mention that Ocado have a brilliant and apparently little known specialist store for pet stuff called 'Fetch'. Things that I can't get elsewhere - tins of good pure meat incl rabbit; wet meat food trays with additives for dogs with joint & gut problems (coconut oil, glucosamine, chondroitin, slippery elm etc) - superb delivery service (they've just been in their own van, 2 days after ordering, free delivery as large order).

I'm amazed no-one in this thread has questioned how they police this. Will there be a dog hotline for pooches to complain that they haven't had their regulation 2 hours today?!

She was rummaging in the hedge for a rogue tennis ball and took a lot longer to come out than usual..

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Congrats to her on coming out, you'll be taking her on the next Pride march in your area then? ;)

Cats.

That's the answer. Our Storm chases the rabbit's around and then comes and sits next to us.
He's just here now......He'll go for a stroll in a bit. Have a sleep. Go for a stroll, play with his mate (a kitten from just down the road). Have supper. Sleep.

At no point do we need to walk him.

Cats. I give you cats.

P.S: They even dump in other people's gardens!

I'm pretty sure you'd change your glib smug mind about bloody cats dumping in other people's gardens if they shat all over the raised beds you spent hundreds of hours growing your lettuces, celery, asparagus, potatoes etc. in, you inconsiderate bleeping bleep 🙄

I know it's been pointed out already but it really is a total of one hour per day.

Which for most people who bother to walk their dogs will probably at least match anyway.

Dog owners should take responsibility and it constantly angers me that where I live I know of at least 3 dogs in my immediate vicinity that never get walked at all.

I would like to see this encouraged more here to dissuade some people from taking on a dog if they can't be bothered to look after it, so am not against this kind of regulation in principle.

You would like to think that common sense would prevail of course, taking into account older animals, or greyhounds who refuse to go out in the rain.

Just returned from the second 45 minute walk and the mutt has been at work with me all day too.
She’s living the canine dream.
Agree though that there are some owners who shouldn’t be allowed to own a dog, let alone a goldfish, so perhaps some sort of vetting system would be beneficial.
