...is the start of authoritarianism. Fascism has a foothold in our nations through misinformation and the self-serving, power hungry elite who continually say “I’m just like you” radicalising those disenfranchised with the system those same elites created.
Our political and financial structures have failed us IMO. They are built to be exploited by sociopaths and psychopaths who lack any level of empathy, in fact they go even further and feel utter contempt for the common human.
What I feel people fail to realise is the class system is a cycle that we cannot break until enough people say enough is enough. Fast food is a great example of this, particularly in the USA...
Open restaurant in poor area, sell it as creating jobs Those jobs are low paid Because it’s low paid, the food is cheap Because the food is cheap, the locals eat it That money is sucked from their local economy into big business and shareholders Those shareholders pay F’ all (if any) tax Because no tax is paid there are minimal public resources to better oneself Thus those in the area’s only real opportunity is to work a sh1t job for the business stealing from their community
This is the same business system that benefits Amazon, but it takes collective effort to change things. Those who can afford to eat elsewhere need to send that statement to the big businesses and show those struggling we have their back.
Meanwhile, this cycle has then been capitalised on by earlier mentioned authoritarians to say “those people who also want jobs but are less American than you are to blame for your problems”. If access to education is limited (which in many poorer areas is a no brainer) it’s easier to get those people to follow your lead.
Really, what we have is decades of disaster capitalism coming to an end very soon. It is not sustainable for most of the population. 99% of us are more likely to find ourselves staying in it dragged down into poorer sections of society whilst a 1% of people who already have considerably more money than any human ever needs get even richer.
Plus, our planet is about to face even bigger issues with climate change because that same elite who have convinced people they have their best interests at heart don’t want a better future for us, just one where they can afford to get on Elon’s rocket ship to the new society as we all die off on a doomed rock (granted this bit is a bit sci-fi dystopian, but they could easily all p1ss off to an island designed for 500 people to continue a life of luxury).
By letting these crooks dictate us and hand them more power, you are resigning your children’s future to a bleak battle of survival.
You may read this and think it’s fear mongering, but I’d challenge those same people to look at how Brexit is going and the warnings they dismissed 4 years ago.
Humanity can only survive if it realises the only thing worth valuing is the collective efforts of humanity. Capitalism is only alive as it thrives on debt, but eventually those debts will come knocking. Question is, do you want to save the broken system at your own expense with considerably less rights/freedoms or do we start again with a better, fairer model?

Conscription? Wash out your mouth and go sit on the naughty step.
The OP. Well, I disagree. There are lots of things I would change. Mayonnaise would be banned. Pickle and most types of salad dressing as well.
I've not the mental energy today to go too deep, but I will say that there needs to be a better way of distributing wealth downward. People who think they can bleed the state need a cold bath. Those in genuine need should be helped. Tea should be compulsory at 1100hrs every day.
Oh, cricket should be the new national religion.
Relax dear friend. We hear you and some feel for you.
Have good day. I am off to find my tramadol and breakfast blend.
Fundamentally we agree wealth distribution is borked though, just different views on a solution. Mine is quite extreme but as mentioned I’m happy to compromise.
Anarchy would never happen overnight, much like fascism right now. Conscious shifts in society, good or bad, usually happen this way. BLM protests in the USA have also been a gradual pot boiling over.

I was willing to overlook your needless attack on mayonnaise to support you but then I got to the cricket bit.

I'm all for compromise in an economic system as a realist. Perhaps with more freedom to choose how we engage with it. A universal basic income would be a huge step in the right direction there.
I mean, I work and I earn a good wage but I also feel like I'm being forced to function in a system not built for my generation.
What level of UBI per month would be appropriate in your opinion?
What we are truly facing in the West... on 15:13 - Sep 1 by monytowbray
I don't think anyone can answer that until after Brexit when everything is more expensive.
Based on current cost of living?
I love the idea of UBI but can't see how it would work for 65m people. Even if we did quite rightfully go after the big corporations and make sure they pay their way.

It saves a lot of money on bureaucracy though. The current system requires people in every town to assess claims, etc. Waste of money IMO.
I don't like this Government either and in 10 years they have done absolutely nothing, they aren't even good at what they pretend to be good at like the economy, debt and immigration. They are absolutely awful. They aren't even good liars, they are just totally incompetent at every level of Government. I wouldn't even consider this current mob as even far right politically, just centre ground mush mixed in with strange right wing statements to the press they never actually implement - something their voters have been too thick to realise. I just don't know what they are apart from being totally useless at the jobs they are meant to be given. I always thought of the evil right being led by fairly maniacally intelligent people with at least some sort of game plan. Right now I would be surprised if the current Prime Minister can actually dress himself and thats probably more of a threat than the far right because it proves if you have a posh accent, come from an approved background and know how to fool other stupid people into thinking your working when you are not, thats dangerous in itself to democracy. .
However we're nowhere close to "fascism" with the current Government. They will be ousted at the next election and be replaced with a new Government of equally incompetent wage claimers who will do nothing they claim to do, the difference being you voted for that lot.
Then they will screw it up, and the cycle continues.

I wish I had your optimism, but you only need to look at how Trump is panning out in the USA and how many here are still defending this shower to see where it's heading.
Intelligence doesn't matter, just the ability to lie and buy your way out of trouble. Can't be held accountable by laws if the law is only for the plebs and doesn't apply to you. Can't be held to account if you never bother showing up to the places where people try and do exactly that.
I've experienced an emotionally abusive relationship and I can say first hand that general intelligence doesn't always reflect one's ability to play others. Trump is a fine example of this - thick as sh1t but has somehow managed to convince large chunks of the population the fact he has money must mean he's smart.
The thing for me is it's not even the government pulling the strings anymore. Idiots who just want admiration are incredibly useful for those who want to do things from the shadows. Particularly corrupt idiots who have no moral barriers to a payday and are easily compromised.
One thing I can't get my head around is what it will take to get the general population to realise the wealthy elites are the cause of the majority of societal issues. People have been spoon fed the migrant narrative for years from certain media outlets and won't even question it now.

It's a bit sensationalist but you're not wrong.

The older I get, the more I feel like society is a prison. We are all inmates until you buy your way out. And by that I mean “get so rich that the norms/laws no longer apply.”
I’d be fully on board with any kind of strike right now. Work. Taxes. Rent. I’d say transport but I’ve been boycotting train fares for years :)

Most landlords are not in the 1%. Not sure a rent strike is a fair idea. A work strike would be a nightmare for the majority of workers who need their pay.
I know you'll say no change is painless etc but you have to be realistic.

I think the reality is until the middle ground know what poverty is most won’t give a sh1t sadly.

They all lie and stretch the truth. Let's take the opponents - Labour who in 2017 implied they would have free Uni education for everyone just to get the student vote. After the election when they were asked about the costing for it, they switched it from a pledge to an ambition. They will never make uni-education free in this country but they won't tell you that at election time because it loses them votes.
As for Boris and his blaggers, they can't even get school exams right even after Scotland cocked it up first and they had a get out of jail free card on that. The one thing that was always said of Napoleon is the trains always ran on time... so fascists they are not. Career politicians yes, but their ideology extends to that what will get them votes that month and little more.
