Even Michael Howard on 23:30 - Sep 10 with 800 views | Ryorry | Watching the 10pm news on BBC then ITV, I was standing there with my jaw dropped open in disbelief at how our alleged PM, Gove et al openly, shamelessly and merrily carry on saying they *will* flout international law no matter what. It's like some Carry On film where the characters and plot are laughably ignorant at what they expect to get away with - but if I were a film critic, I'd slate it for being stupidly unbelievable. Not just Michael Howard & other senior Tories , but this - extraordinary in diplomatic terms - [Post edited 10 Sep 2020 23:31]

But mostly, they voted for blue passports and no foreigners which the government will tell them they'll get.

I've seen a couple of suggestions from commentators that the EU side should keep quiet (which by and large they are). This brand of Tories want outrage and retaliation so they can then be seen as defending the UK against the foreign aggressors. If the EU keep calm and open to negotiation it'll take all the sting out of the situation and all that's left is the Tories internally having a go at themselves.

Seems to be exactly what Starmer is doing as well. Just keeping quiet about it all so it doesn't go all "look, he's trying to stop Brexit!". I imagine someone will try and stop this at a legal level given everything I've read.

Very good point (and Dan's post that followed too).

Apparently that’s why the EU are continuing trade talks - they suspect the Internal Market Bill is a red rag to get them to walk out of the negotiations but they don’t want to play into Johnson’s hands. I wonder what it’ll take for the first resignation to happen, either from the cabinet or the party? People walked away from May for much less than this.

Looks like the House of Lords will vote it down if it breaks international law.
