Not a dog owner but this seems barking 08:17 - Nov 17 with 1067 viewsStokieBlue

A county in China is trying to ban people from walking their dogs. Fines issued for the first 2 offences, on the third offence the dog is taken away and killed.

It's not even a C19 rule but a rule to enforce "civilised dog raising". Surely keeping a dog inside all the time is the least civilised thing you can do to it?

Madness.

That's awful, and incredibly bad for the dogs.

Up arrowed for the quip in the thread title, not because of the somewhat barbaric actions of the Chinese government. Denying dogs outside exercise is outright cruel.

As there's a pet thread can dog and cat owners maybe stop treating them for fleas unless they actually have them.

“The problem is these chemicals are so potent,” he said, even at tiny concentrations. “We would expect them to be having significant impacts on insect life in rivers.” One flea treatment of a medium-sized dog with imidacloprid contains enough pesticide to kill 60 million bees, he said.

Totally agree, and it's not good either for dogs themselves or owners to be constantly exposed to such toxic chemicals.

I've never used chemical flea treatments on either of my dogs, and neither have ever had a flea infestation in any of their combined 25 years - hard flooring throughout the downstairs and regular washing of their bedding is sufficient preventative. Some people say coconut oil or cider vinegar stroked through the coat are good natural preventatives.

For ticks, checking after walks and immediate removal with the usual tick-remover tool if any are found (in an average season no more than 6, and that's walking through woods where deer are regularly seen) is enough.

Ridiculous, barbaric and hypocritical, given that's an area where I think dogs are on the dinner menu? (I'd be more than happy to be corrected here!).

We lock animals in cages to continually impregnate them and steal their calves for meat so we can drink their milk.

I think for animal welfare issues we should look closer to home also.

First they eat bats & now this.

It's almost as though they have no animal welfare standards.

I think that maybe Korea, but given the invertebrates, bats, ducks feet and other things they get through, I can’t imagine the odd poodle doesn’t wind up on the barbecue somewhere in that huge country.

Seen plenty of images truck loads of cute puppies crammed into crates taken in China.

I don't think it's uncommon in some parts at all.

Also cats.

Didn’t realise we kill dogs by putting them in sacks and smashing them against brick walls so that the meat is ‘full of adrenaline’ before then eating the dog meat.

‘Officials said it was to protect residents, as there had been incidents where unleashed pets had bitten people.’

So they’ve decided the best way to stop the dogs from biting is to ban them from going outside affectingly. Seems absolutely ridiculous. Hopefully they come to their senses before it starts on November 20th or it’ll cause a big issue for no real reason.

You told me a few years back you knew what goes in slaughterhouses. You should watch those videos I posted that you made Phil delete.

Still an absolute nonsense claim from you to suggest our animal welfare standards are of the same ilk of those in China. Just blatantly untrue.

I didn’t say they were though, did I?

I said we have poor animal welfare standards here. This stuff happens behind slaughterhouse walls here.
