Windows updates 12:13 - Nov 27 with 2952 viewsHerbivore

Jesus H. Christ, how is it that Windows can't seem to do an update without it breaking something on your computer? My internet completely stopped working and after trying numerous simple and more complicated fixes (I used the command prompt, whatever that is) I had to manually change the DNS (whatever that means) to get it working again. Bunch of absolute arseholes. That's an hour of my life I'll never get back.

While windows updates do more good than we realise, the level of crap we go through is unreal.

Because operating systems are incredibly complicated, and Windows allows a near infinite number of different hardware combinations, as well as having fairly insane backwards compatibility.

The command prompt is a text based interface that is used to interface with the operating system, much like DOS.

DNS is basically how www.twtd.co.uk turns into an IP address that the computer then knows to go to.

Happy to be of service.

DOS is still very useful (command line/console/terminal)

Without it, us techie types would have nothing to feel good about in ourselves when we see the peasants using a GUI based OS.

You shouldn't go around using the term Luddite as an insult, saladers.

The Luddites were only opposed to the modernisation of the workplace because of the effects it was going to have on employment rights. Had the bosses treated their concerns more seriously, no machinery would have been smashed.

And that is your lesson for today.
