So, backed by Evans, Phil is even further away from getting back in and.. 12:57 - Dec 5 with 4762 viewsSwailsey

The club are doubling down after the push from us, Radio Suffolk etc.

I am just lost for words and so, so angry.

What has happened?!

Completely burying their heads.

Feel free to delete this Phil, if this will stoke things further.

That doesn't even make sense you idiot.

I will refrain from calling you names, but if that's your way so be it, but I guess I have seen hundreds more ITFC games than you so I can have an opinion just as you can.

"I hate to think what would have happened to Sir Bobby if this forum was around when he first came here."

Lambert is not Sir Bobby Robson. He is not an upcoming manager who needs a bit of time. He got us relegated in his first year and then saw us to a mid table finish the season after.

And his record, after 100 games, in the 2nd and 3rd tiers cannot ever be compared to Sir Bobby's in the top flight. Please don't mention the two in the same breath.

Bloom makes an excellent point I think. Consider Robson’s early years in the modern context.

Ferguson, similarly, would have been sacked by man United in the early period if he was appointed in recent years.

But we get this point whenever a manager we have isn't doing well.

So far none of should even be mentioned in the same breath as Robson.

1969/70 - 24%
1970/71 - 28%
1971/72 - 27%
Sir Bobby's record of win percentage for the first three FULL seasons, Lambert is in his 3rd season and none of them have been full seasons yet.

For sure, and listen lambert isn’t in the same conversation as SBR.

It’s true though, the modern game would not have allowed the great man the success he had. He’d have been sacked.

Trailing vapour since 1999.

It's all relative, we have division 3 players now playing in division 3.

I’m guessing Bobby didn’t have one of the biggest budgets in the league though?

I get your point but football has changed, Lambert is managing in 2020 not 1969 and has been given far more slack here than he would get almost anywhere else.

Did Robson achieve his win percentage with a Town side that had one of the biggest, most well paid, expensively assembled sqauds in the top flight? I'm guessing the answer to that is no.

It was always recognised we paid good salaries though, even Sir Bobby was probably one of if not the best paid managers in the division. He acknowledged as much himself when he took a pay cut to become England manager.
When Baby Ferguson took over he moaned about having no money to spend and said SBR always managed to get some to spend if he felt he needed it. But in the main he was a great coach who brought through some great players from the youths to the first team. Hopefully we will see that again with the current crop of youngsters.

To be fair THEY probably do know better, you do not get to be a multi millionaire by taking notice of everyone that voiced an opinion.
I hate to think what would have happened to Sir Bobby if this forum was around when he first came here.
Remember the Cobbolds comments after a bad run of games, crisis! we only have a crisis if we run out of wine in the board room.

For the record I would have preferred Lambert not to have got the job in the first place, but he is here and got the backing of the owner so get behind the team, we won today and sit in 3rd.

‘Get behind the team, we won today and sit in 3rd.’

That’s where you got it wrong. The issue is no longer about what we do on the pitch. The issue is the Ipswich that we’ve become off it. And that isn’t the club I know and love.

So yes or no, did Robson have one of the most highly paid, expensively assembled squads in the top flight when he was achieving those relatively low win percentages? It's already a case of comparing apples and oranges, but assuming we weren't one of the richest clubs in the top flight in Robson's early years it's like comparing apples with a baboon's arse.

we can forget the 69/70 season as bobby didnt come to ipswich until the jan of 69.
i dont look at % i look to see if we improve seasons on season.
so 70/71 19th in the league
71/72 13th in the league
72/73 4th in the league
have we improved under lambert ?.
sir bob went and bought jimmy robertson in after things were not going right in 1970 season. he could see the problem and it wasn't the CROWD

forensic experts say footers and spruces fingerprints were not found at the scene after the weekends rows
