I’m in a conundrum... 22:14 - Dec 19 with 8253 views | LeistonBlue | I live in London and have spent the last 12 days in full isolation (haven’t left the house at all, live on my own), in order to safely travel to my parents who live in Leiston for Christmas. I have also had one negative test two days ago and awaiting the results of another one taken today (private tests, not scrounging off the NHS). Assuming that one comes back negative as well, do I drive to Suffolk on Tuesday as planned safe in the knowledge that I have done everything in my power to not bring the virus with me, or do I follow the rules to the letter and stay in London having Christmas on my own and not seeing my parents who I haven’t seen since February? Thoughts TWTD peeps??

I’m in a conundrum... on 15:50 - Dec 20 by 26_Paz | If this gentlemen were to be stopped as some have suggested I would assume once he explains he is visiting his support bubble, in line with the rules he would be allowed on his way |
Indeed. He’s have to be prepared to say there is no other bubble in existence, but he’d be ok.

I’m in a conundrum... on 16:34 - Dec 20 with 770 views | Rozz | Lots of us facing the same difficult situations. I wasn't able to get a test (without exhibiting symptoms) and tbh am very uneasy about returning home for my grandfathers' funeral on Tuesday. It sounds like OP has been as careful as possible and is within their rights to visit under grounds of support. There are a fair few loopholes and it's down to the individual to decide if these are applicable & what they are ultimately comfortable with in these cases. Did anyone else find this interesting re students at vacation homes??: (22) Subject to sub-paragraph (23), exception 16 is that it is reasonably necessary for P to leave or be outside P’s home to– (a) move on one occasion from their student household before 8th February 2021 to one other household (“vacation household”) for the purposes of a vacation, or (b) to return to their term time accommodation after the vacation. (23) Sub-paragraph 22 only applies where P is a student who is undertaking a higher education course at the time this Schedule came into force. This essentially makes university students exempt from travel restrictions if they are 'moving' temporarily back to their parents homes. [Post edited 20 Dec 2020 16:36]

Thanks both. A fabulous innings of 91 years, but thankfully a relatively short decline and time in care. I'll miss him dearly.

It’s like hearing someone say ‘Lambert got it tactically spot-on today’ Full marks to the boy though, he knew his facts & typed something both accurate and constructive. I have high hopes for a similar achievement sometime around June 2022.

I’m in a conundrum... on 15:04 - Dec 20 by N2_Blue | I and all of my family have not broken the law at any stage during this pandemic. I think justifying breaking the law because you think 90% of the general population are is not a good view to have and just adds to the general problem of people being selfish at this time. I'd also suggest its no way near 90%, maybe 1 in 2 |
Judging by my experiences, I would suggest nearer to 1%.

Selfish? I don’t think there’s anything selfish in his statement or the sentiment behind reaching out to others to canvas opinion. You could argue that labelling people selfish without any deeper understanding of people’s circumstance is also selfish. OP - for what it’s worth, you’re canvassing opinion from a forum which is predominantly moderate late 40s + men, many of whom don’t live in London. You’ll unlikely get too much wide ranging opinion. The long and short is the government have rushed through a law to make up for their own mistakes in the lead up to this. Any confidence that this new tier level is the right decision has been largely destroyed by the continued incompetence. Im in a similar position to you and weighing up whether the risk is worth the reward. My family are more important than any statute. The decision isn’t a selfish one, it’s a difficult one but maybe a necessary one depending on individual circumstance.
