ME's most expensive signings 10:30 - Jan 28 with 4054 viewshatch

Just as some light relief - who can tell me the top 5 most expensive signings under Marcus Evans? I was curious at 2am last night so went hunting on transfermarkt to retrieve the list and it was fairly close to what I expected.

Transfer fees only, not wages or paying off Chopra's hitmen.

Martin was bad as even people around the club were amazed he was given a four-year deal on very good money at the time he was signed. Still not entirely sure of the fee, although people have talked about £2m in the past. Priskin at £1.7m was a lot as well.

Difficult to argue with any of those as the best, although Walters was signed pre-Evans if I remember rightly.

Now I understand why Martin apologised to me on the golf course last month I said I was a town fan

According to TransferMarkt it's:

Leadbitter £2.7m
Norris £2.7m
Martin £2.03m
Taylor £2.03m
Priskin £1.8m

Selected others:
McAuley £1.7m
Jackson £1.62m
Chopra £1.53m
Huws £1.04m (The first signing over £1m for around 5 seasons)
Edwards £1.35m

Not sure if there are any missing there but the majority were in the early days as we know.

Surely Civelli would be on that list too?

I think it is probably close but with Martin replacing Edwards

Norris - decent enough but massively overpaid because of the sell on clause. To overpay that much he needed to be a final piece in a jigsaw opposed to a steady enough player.

Leadbitter - was OK but we never found a way to get the best out of him. Massively playing within himself by dropping too deep and never trying to drive us forward. Terrible waste of money

Edwards - overspent on a 30+ year old pacey winger. Far too much for a player going backwards in a career but probably was the best value in this list in the end

Priskin - horrific was waste especially when you consider who we had waiting to play that position. Honestly saw about 10 minutes of his debut to realise we had been done.

Martin - how can anyone get a value so wrong? Turned into a decent lower level player but over 2 million was scandalous

Jackson - interestingly he was enormously overpriced but despite doing nothing here at all could have gone for a profit. The price was based on potential which means he needed to be developed, we needed a ready made result for that money and haven't developed him or tried to support him at all

Edwards 30+ ???

If we had paid that much for gwion he would be the worst signing of all time

I think that’s correct, in that order.

I thought

Leadboots 2.6
Martin 2.2
Norris 2
Priskin 1.7
Jackson 1.6
Edwards 1.5

Norris was 2.5m IIRC

I believe Civelli cost £1m.
Walters was signed for £100k in January 2007 & Evans didn't take control until 2008.

I imagine he was just being sympathetic to what being a Town fan means these days!

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Charlie Woods persuaded ME to sign Civelli. I suspect he could have been a top player if he hadn't picked up that injury.

Nsiala and Nolan for £2 Million is also painful

Gio would have cost a fair wack of wages

I struggle to get my head round the fact that we are light years away from spending 2m on a player/s, yet a couple years we spent this amount on Toto and Nolan

To add to that, we probably kept Shrewsbury in business for a couple seasons and now we are just 11 points ahead of them and they have a game in hand.

I’ll let that sink in

Ha! He was actually offered the chance to stay by Mick but when he got booed coming on as a sub in his final home game he thought he ought to move on.

Hurst's squandering of the proceeds of the sales of Webster & Waghorn on Edwards (£700k), Nsiala & Nolan (£2m the pair), Jackson(£1m), Harrison (£750k) & Donacien (£750k) is the main reason why Town are in such a pickle.
That's £5.2m spent on 6 very average 3rd division players.

Well according to transfermrkt we signed him for £1.04m and let him go free two years later to Libertad. He spent one season there then sold again for £1.31m!

So he was clearly a decent player who just struggled here, mostly due to injury and lack of gametime.

He was class. The story goes that Faurlin was also lined up to follow but when we sacked him it was cancelled so Jim singed Jim for QPR instead. Very good player and having him and Civelli together might have got the best out of both of then. Guentchev and Bosinoski or taricco and paz

We were just unlucky with Civelli. Understandably, he took times to get to grips with English football & just as he was finding his feet he got a terrible injury. For once, I don't think blame for this can be placed with ITFC.
