How come Oli Hawkins... on 11:27 - Jan 30 by mrshallisfit | Its very simple. The NHS is being overwhelmed by the pandemic. The private system is not. Thats pretty simple to understand isn't it. |
...the issue isn't simply about overall capacity. It's primarily about ITU bed capacity. The private sector has very few, if any ITU beds, when a private patient needs a serious procedure they need to ensure that there is an ITU bed available in the NHS should there be complications. Currently these are being taken up with Covid patients. Ultimately the more serious procedures aren't even happening privately. During the first lockdown private facilities were being used to supplement the NHS for less serious procedures. The NHS haven't contracted with the private sector formally to do that this time, they have just issued surge notices saying that they may need to. The issue is simply down to the availability of ITU beds, not overall capacity, nor money.

Essentially that. Neurosurgery is a field of medicine which is VERY dependent upon ITU beds for post-operative care. [Post edited 30 Jan 2021 11:41]

How come Oli Hawkins... on 10:41 - Jan 30 by bluejacko | Being overwhelmed has not stopped NHS surgery’s charging £100 for Hgv medical though! I hope your family member gets sorted soon. [Post edited 30 Jan 2021 10:43]

That's because HGV medicals, like travel vaccinations, are not an NHS service. It's a private service that you can access at NHS facilities. More crucially, it's a private service that directly impacts upon NHS services as whilst they're doing that, they can't be treating the genuinely needy. [Post edited 30 Jan 2021 11:48]

Sometimes, it's difficult not to get a little frustrated when things are explained to him, with the aid of diagrams and he still refuses to get it.

No, you should've said it so people know what the feck you're talking about. My dad is waiting for a cancer op, and minor eye surgery. Both have been put back due to the health service being overwhelmed by Covid. You saying the health services aren't really overwhelmed is massively wrong and offensive.

You didn't say just that though did you? You said the health services obviously aren't really overwhelmed. You also said I couldn't read, which is why I called you thick. Badger explained to you what the issue is. Looks like you didn't really want an answer to your question, you just wanted a rant. Which is fair enough, but don't take it out on people who gave you a correct answer. We're not mind readers. I hope your family member has a quick recovery.

No, several people have pointed out that one is private and one is public. EDIT: Just realised "I’ll put you back on ignore now I know who you are" is another lie - your first reply to me in this thread you called me Jerseys, so you knew exactly who I was. Typical Tory. Private healthcare is fine - if you want to take that choice then brilliant. Once it hits personally then have a rant that completely misses the heart of the matter.

How come Oli Hawkins... on 13:28 - Jan 30 with 1399 views | m14_blue | Sorry to hear about your family member, that must be awful and hope there’s a happy ending. I get why it seems unfair when you see things like the Hawkins op going ahead but, as others have said, there are specific reasons, mostly the huge pressure on ITU beds. I find your comment about ‘bleating’ from doctors and surgeons grossly unfair and insulting although I guess it comes from frustration. My brother in law is a doctor in an intensive care unit in London and what they have gone through over the last 12 months is indescribable, these are the people who have dedicated their lives to helping others and will hopefully do the same for your family member when circumstances allow.

Are there far fewer drivers on the roads. When I use the A12 for work it still seems pretty busy. Not normal busy, but still pretty busy.

Hgv drivers yes there is a shortage and as you need a medical from the age of 55 the pool will begin to run even drier.

30 seconds googling has given me at least a dozen links for companies willing to do HGV medicals for less than half of what you're claiming.
