Anyone here own an Olde English Bulldog? 12:45 - Mar 3 with 6873 viewsnoggin

Seriously considering getting a dog for company. Was considering a French Bulldog or Boston Terrier but they are very popular here and waiting lists are long. There are very limited shelter dogs here so I'm considering an Olde English Bulldog puppy.

Poll: If KM goes now, will you applaud him when he returns with his new club?

Several years later, judging by some of the contributors to the thread, eventually took your advice & now have a 2-yr old Labrador.

What you *didn't* say (just as well or I now wouldn't have my adorable mutt!) is that many of them, like mine, don't mentally mature till they're 3 years old; and have a gene which means they literally don't know when their stomachs are full.
Basically, a Labrador is a life-support machine for a stomach!

Our vet's comment about Labs was "chew till they're two; shed till they're dead" (mine is definitely moulting for England atm, at the rate of about half a carrier bag a day!).

Yeah, just as well I didn’t see that 2 years ago!

Mind you, it’s the non-food items that are most dangerous - he spent Christmas ’23 in vet hospital having his stomach cut open to remove a 15 x 12 inch microfibre towel. They also found a soft toy, 3 large bits of black plastic and a food tray film …

Scavenging like that is actually a medical condition called Pica, and very hard to keep them safe if they have it. Have to watch him like a hawk, but even so eventually decided it’s a better life for him to allow him some freedom off-lead, even if it means it might be shorter.

I had thought of getting a dog in 2024.

It’s now 2025 and I got two rescue cats instead, they are sisters, the lady who runs the rescue home told us she would never split them up,so we had to take them both.

They are lovely to watch, they look after each other, and if you ‘try’ to pick one of them up,and it meows whilst you are ‘trying’ to do so,the other is there like a shot almost saying put her down you ****.

We've got a bonded pair of rescue cats (Bobby and Alfie - and yes very deliberately chosen names). Having had cats most of my childhood and adult life I always loved the independence of cats - but my goodness these two are inseparable. Sleep together, groom each other, follow each other around. They're only three years old so hopefully we don't have to contemplate this for years - but god knows how one will cope when eventually lose the other.

What's funny is when our youngest dog decides to chase Alfie (who is the more timid of the two) then Bobby will be there within 2-3 seconds smacking the dog around the head.

That my friend is something I have thought about many a time.

Yep they certainly do worry about each other a lot, which is nice I guess.
