Anyone here own an Olde English Bulldog? 12:45 - Mar 3 with 6861 views | noggin | Seriously considering getting a dog for company. Was considering a French Bulldog or Boston Terrier but they are very popular here and waiting lists are long. There are very limited shelter dogs here so I'm considering an Olde English Bulldog puppy.

Wonderful creatures. | |

Anyone here own an Olde English Bulldog? on 17:50 - Mar 3 by jeera | Absolutely second this all day long. Although speaking from experience here and not Norway - I have no idea of the situation there! But there's so many amazing dogs here waiting for someone to give them a home. I love dogs and if I came into money I would set up my own kennels/rescue centre. And pay a kid to clear up the poo. In cash of course. |
I would do the same especially when you see dogs like this. Breaks your heart. https://www.danaheranimalhome.org.uk/dogpost/?permalink=bonnie-and-rosie16008-16

I’ve never given anyone a down arrow, but I went close here. There’s no such thing as a 5/10 dog. All 8’s, minimum.

....is still a total nightmare. You name it she'll eat/chew/destroy it. I can actually hear the wife in the kitchen (her rightful place) right now and it's just "get down", "what are you doing", "let go of that", "stop biting", "Fook off you little bitch". Funny. About 6 months to go yet I reckon!

Anyone here own an Olde English Bulldog? on 20:13 - Mar 10 with 1413 views | Hugoagogo_Reborn | Missed this thread. I regularly walk an Olde English Bulldog male. He is left home all day and I actually think it doesn't do him good, so that's worth bearing in mind. He is like night and day in the Winter/Summer. He lives with a mum and daughter who is around 4 years old and is fine with the kid. He is reactionary with the postman/cars/other dogs but it's mainly bluster and he isn't actually aggressive, just bored and stressed, I think. He loves being scratched and stroked, loves playing treasure hunt with treats and can be very affectionate when he is in the mood. Bulldogs are lethargic by nature, so good pets to consider if you are not very active. Also bear in mind that rare colours, whilst desirable, are more likely to have health issues than 'breed standard' colours, for various reasons. Hope you find your ideal companion. I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and as companion dogs go, you really couldn't pick a better breed.

My Spaniel is fine for a few hours alone. I tend to leave the radio on, remove access to windows so he doesn't bark or get stressed by outside stimulus, and would never leave him for more than 4 hours. If they are regularly exercised and sufficiently stimulated when you are there, most will be fine. Cavvies also sleep A LOT, so that helps!

If you must know, I was looking at pictures of Mini Old English Bulldogs (Olde English x French Bulldog) and it appeared in my feed. Clicking the link on my phone, I can't see the year in Topic view, just time, day, month. It said March 3rd, so I assumed I was only a week late. So sorry to have offended your senses with my contributions. As you were... [Post edited 10 Mar 20:26]

Several years later, judging by some of the contributors to the thread, eventually took your advice & now have a 2-yr old Labrador. What you *didn't* say (just as well or I now wouldn't have my adorable mutt!) is that many of them, like mine, don't mentally mature till they're 3 years old; and have a gene which means they literally don't know when their stomachs are full. Basically, a Labrador is a life-support machine for a stomach! Our vet's comment about Labs was "chew till they're two; shed till they're dead" (mine is definitely moulting for England atm, at the rate of about half a carrier bag a day!).

Read about this gene research this week. I think I may possibly have the Labrador gene myself. 😂

I have Jack Russell. Loving, intelligent, but very stubborn. Wouldn't recommend for a first dog. @OP: If you just want a dog for company, the best option would be a cat.

Co-incidentally a couple of days ago, there was a report on one of the papers online looking into that labrador gene and whether it did apply to humans as well. So could be true !

I had thought of getting a dog in 2024. It’s now 2025 and I got two rescue cats instead, they are sisters, the lady who runs the rescue home told us she would never split them up,so we had to take them both. They are lovely to watch, they look after each other, and if you ‘try’ to pick one of them up,and it meows whilst you are ‘trying’ to do so,the other is there like a shot almost saying put her down you ****.

Out of interest, apart from their colour did you notice any difference between the blacks & the goldens in terms of their temperaments/character traits?

they were/are all very individual obviously, but no I would not say the colour denotes any differences. All steady temperament, loyal, a bit daft, greedy and totally lovable.

Anyone here own an Olde English Bulldog? on 11:00 - Mar 12 with 714 views | cartface07 | I have a cocker spaniel and I couldn't have asked for a better dog - they are incredibly smart, great companions and have a great personality. Needs to expend energy though so I take her to the park most days - they love chasing a tennis ball

Anyone here own an Olde English Bulldog? on 11:16 - Mar 12 with 696 views | Morls46 | Morning! I am a proud father to Wilson a 4 year old Olde English Bulldog. He is our first Olde English Bulldog and wont be our last! He is a loveable 41 kg lap dog! he has all the bulldog characteristics... he is slobbery, food obsessed, snoring, grumpy, lazy and a sleep machine. A typical Wilson day. He wakes up in his basket in the kitchen (don't let him sleep on your bed... he snores and bed hogs) he is reluctant to get out of his bed (lazy) have to bribe him with treat to go for a wee + no2 Breakfast - We order his food from Tails.com... bull dogs have funny diets and will be trial and error until you find one they like and doesn't give them the squits. he then returns to his fav chair in the living room in the sun (sun worshipper) fast forward 6 hours... he hasn't moved an inch and still asleep.... I have to bribe him to go out for a wee then returns to his chair to sleep (again) When I get home from work I take him for a walk.... bulldogs dont require long walks... 30 - 45 mins is adequate, be warned if its raining or snowing or to hot... expect your bulldog to protest and want to return home... this normally means he will lay down and have a sit down protest... trust me... 40kg bulldogs are too heavy to carry!! when we get home its dinner time and then an evening on the sofa in front of the tv sleeping (again) Its not all positives though .... there are some negatives.... insurance... as soon as you say B U L L D O G on the phone.... expect quotes around £100 a month then there is the health issues... Old english are better because they have a longer nose... longer legs... but we have had issues in our 4 years that the insurance has covered... thankfully. But as a breed we love him... he is great with the kids... he isn't a barky dog.... he is full of character (when he is awake) He was a little humpy as a young puppy... but calmed down when we had him done. Also Bulldogs are sociable with other dogs.... but bulldogs are idiots and don't know how to play.... they like to bundle and bulldose and get up in front of other dogs faces..... all they want to do is play but other dogs sometimes take offence to such shenanigans You can train bulldogs.... sit... beg...stay... but be warned you will only be able to achieve this if the dog can be bothered and there's food involved. Hopefully this helps... we would highly recommend the bread. we love him to pieces... but an old English bulldog isn't just another dog .... in there eyes they are the king of the house!

Anyone here own an Olde English Bulldog? on 13:07 - Mar 3 by gordon | Recently got a Bearded Collie Puppy, he's quite good at doing tricks / following commands, but he also likes to chew things, he's petrified of Flags and dustbins, and sh*ts and p*sses wherever he wants. not sure if that helps. |
My favourite breed; I've had a couple. There are several very knowledgeable owners around Ipswich.
