I thought that 'the adder is the only venomous snake in the UK' was a standard issue child fact.

There are no snakes in Ireland.

Legend has it that Saint Patrick drove them all out - or so my Catholic half of the family insisted.

Either that or Brexit.

NZ doesn't does it.

Too far from anywhere and never been introduced.

Who the feck would introduce a snake anyway?

I mean, countries that have snakes haven't had them introduced.

What about Australia, they have the deadliest snakes on the planet and it's not far from NZ.

I just looked on the map and it's only an inch away.

Bizarre to think that inch is over a thousand miles isn't it.

On my one visit to Oz my mother asked if I would be visiting her sister whilst there.

I was on the East, my aunt is on the West.

I had to explain the time it would take for me to fly to my aunt's home would be like me saying I just going to pop over to see Africa from here.

Good luck with that.

Have a map at hand to back it up maybe.

Mine is like Africa. Well it used to be before Lady Lucan ate it.

It's now more like Mauritius

When I was four years old-ish I popped round to the neighbours'.

It was only a couple of doors down; all households knew each other and that stuff. I had an uncle and aunt a few doors down, next door to us were my Godparents, that kind of thing.

Anyways, I got a few yards and a snake was following me on the pavement.

I was in a right state by the time I got to the neighbours door.

I thought it was chasing me, but of course, looking back, I will assume it just happened to be going in the same direction.

Even a picture of a snake can make me uncomfortable.

I HATE snakes.

When I was a teenager many years agoI had several grass cutting jobs. I was cutting one day with a rotary mower with no box on the back when grass snake slithered out just in front on me. I couldn’t stop and went right over it. Out from the back came the snake in about 6 pieces all wiggling and jumping around on the lawn. I ran and hid behind a tree!

Was it home grown? I used to know a bloke from that stupid estate at the bottom of it (Weird estate that no one talks about)

It was years ago now and he liked a tug, not much grass about then though apart from the prison grade stuff, it was mainly Red Leb about - which was nice.
