Ha. I think i'm right here. No attempt to cover any guilt.

This is one issue. I'm not trying to get one in the bank so I can throw "but the vaccines!" out there every time the EU is brought up. It was a mistake and I acknowledge my part in it.

What do you think you're right about out of interest, given that you've already acknowledged that my central point - that we could have gone it alone on the vaccines even when still in the EU - is correct?

That is was never a realistic option due to political pressure. I know you don't agree. We're never going to agree. There's no clear cut evidence but plenty which suggests I am right IMO.

When has the UK ever cared about political pressure from the EU? We didn't join the Euro, or Schengen. We were always in but with one foot outside the tent. I don't really see any evidence to suggest we wouldn't have gone alone when faced with the choice, given that we did go alone when faced with the choice.

Especially as Oxford-AstraZeneca would have been a cert for development in the UK anyhow. With Johnson as PM, or any Conservative for that matter, we would have always gone it alone.

The EU are still in a pretty good place by world standards and will be where we are now soon enough. A few weeks is neither here nor there in the timeframe of the pandemic. I'm old enough to remember when you were critical of the Welsh & Scottish government's for their slow vaccine start, but they soon caught up

And the economy angle is a vacuous argument. We'd be in as much of a mess irrespective of whether we were in the EU or not, plus it's not either virus or economy. Deal with the virus better and you don't have as much rebuilding of the economy to do.

You think that an entire trading block of 27 countries catching up with a small country like ours in a few weeks is a pretty good place to be?

Let me know when France or Germany catch us up and we'll talk.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over
