Hopefully just an opening shot to introducing some sensible controls....

Poll: This new lockdown poll - what you reckon?

Every day 106 people in the US are killed by guns.

Wow. Just wow. Good luck to Biden. It is unbelievable how strong the support for freedom to carry guns in the US is.

In the UK there are 50-60 gun killings annually.

Credit to Biden for trying to do something, but unless he can use Executive Orders, he's whistling in the wind. These will inevitably be challenged in the courts by the NRA on the spurious grounds of altering the 2nd amendment (which was actually all about maintaining a militia, rather than private gun ownership).
While 2/3 of Americans would like stricter gun controls, their absurd system always blocks this, with the well funded NRA targeting any Senator or Representative who supports this. Even obviously sensible ideas, such as restricting semi-automatic weapons (which no sane person needs) are twisted by the NRA, who warble that this is a prelude towards "taking all our guns away".

I think many countries to a certain extent have a kind of cultural blind spot in certain areas that seems completely normal to many of those within the borders of the country but completely nuts to large parts of the rest of the world.

It's guns here. It's probably gambling in the UK.

Pronouns: He/Him/His. "Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."
Poll: Selectamod

I'll raise you Australia for gambling.

They have betting shops inside pubs ffs. Not to mention Victoria has something like 15% of state revenues from gambling.

I didn't know that!

I think it would be huge here if it was ever legal nationally. People seem to go nuts for scratch cards and I've seen these fruit machine areas start popping up in more and more motorway petrol stations weirdly. The missus still couldn't believe her eyes at the sheer number of bookies in Ipswich on her first trip over though.

They do in France as well.

Gambling, our “democracy”, child poverty, centralisation, our economy, immigrants, the media ... the UK is one massive blind spot.

I couldn't believe it when I walked into the Aussie equivalent of a British Legion Club. It had a casino that Vegas would be proud of.
