I think the bigger take away from this is one of our most successful players, a former England international and manager (though not of us) was struggling to decipher what we were supposed to be playing.

Also former England captain at the World Cup Finals.

How can our ‘star centre forward’ and I use that term with tongue firmly in cheek not know who Mick Mills is?

When joining a club would you not immerse yourself in its culture, in its history, in the town itself?

Or should you rock up once a week, call the ref a cunit and trouser your £8k without a care in the world?

All he's heard is a voice on the radio, potentially. Even if he does know who Mick Mills is (not guaranteed) he may well not have know it was him on the radio.

And I wouldn't be surprised if players didn't fully immerse themselves in a club's history, other than maybe knowing what trophies we've won. He's paid to play football not take a history test. Do you know who the manager was at your workplace 30 odd years ago?

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Exactly. Don't think he watches the games on ifollow much given that he's normally playing.

"normally playing" is a bit of a stretch, but I get your point.

I certainly know how where and when the company was formed 25 years ago yes. I made a point to understand how and the steps they got to be where they are today.

How else can I be expected to excell unless I take time to do that? If people want to rock up at the factory they work at five minutes before their shift starts then fine, but don’t think you will
Improve your position or your standing with your employers if you walk around in a sulk saying you have no idea who the owners father was.

Being a footballer is a job, nothing more these days. It’s certainly not a religion like it is to most fans, me included. I loved Mick Mills as a player and he was a truly loyal servant of the club, but it’s a bit strange that supporters call Norwood unprofessional and then excuse a man being paid to analyse football matches who spends the entire first half getting a very basic part of that analysis wrong. Someone obviously put him right at halftime.

haha, what?

You are very rare I'd suggest. I doubt most people know who managed their company 30-odd years ago (if it existed) and the idea that you need to know a company's history to progress is utter nonsense. You progress by being good at your job.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Footballers go where their agents get them the biggest pay packet (or the agent makes the most out of the deal). I’m afraid there isn’t much more to it these days!

eh?

I work in advertising. And in the various ad agencies I've worked in, no I didn't know who the Creative Director was 30-odd years ago. Why would I? It's not remotely relevant to me doing my job today.

I haven't said I don't care who I work for... and suddenly you've used a cigarette manufacturer to make your point?!?

I'm trying sooo hard to be a nicer poster, but honestly some of you don't have an ounce of logic in you. As I said above, even if Norwood does know who Mick Mills is, he may well have not known that was him co-commentating!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

You really have extrapolated a lot from a man listening to a couple of football commentators he may or may not know the names of.

You really think a modern day footballer is the slightest bit interested in what happened 40 years ago at a club he might stay at for a few years until a better offer comes along.

I don’t get it, he said he didn’t like the commentary, it’s an opinion.

Poll: Would love to know the opinions on here now of Lambert genuinely?

He never mentioned anything to do with him being our greatest captain.

He said he didn’t like his commentary.

People say it all the time, especially on Sky/BT who have been great players; Keane, Souness, Evra, Carragher, Neville.

It’s just an opinion.
