A poor side made worse 21:43 - Apr 20 with 1048 viewsKev_W

Struggling to think of another manager who has come in with such immediate ineffectiveness. There is not one aspect of the team that has improved. No individual player has progressed. No formation that works has emerged. Occasionally there are hints of a different style but not consistently. Team selections are odd; more like semi organised auditions or test runs for unlikely future combinations.

I imagine the new owners are concerned. Cook was hired to take us into the play offs. Simply blaming the players isn't an option I imagine would or should be accepted. However whatever happens he will have less control over transfer business with the new set up than any previous Town manager. That looks certain.

It does take time to turn a ship around.

There’s a bad culture at the club in terms of a winning mentality, it’s all to safe.

Should Cook be doing better yes on paper but things appear to
Be much worse behind the scenes than we as fans expected Post Cook’s appointment.

Sure it's not an easy task. The gaps in the squad and the lack of grit means we could never be serious challengers. However, a new manager should be able to show some progress - a clear approach and some buy in from key players as a minimum.

The new owners, who have put their trust in Mike O'Leary, will be aware he has publicly backed Cook when he came in.

Nothing to worry about right now, the season will soon be over with these losers and then we can look upwards.

Cook wasn't hired to get us into the playoffs, otherwise he would have been given a short term contract

This is the third manager in a row who has failed to get "buy in from key players".

Who the hell do our squad think they are? I genuinely think you could have Guardiola, Klopp or Bielsa parachuted in and this bunch would resent having to listen to them.

If the culture is bad then no. These players dont appear to be bothered in any way shape or form
If they are here next year and I suspect quite a few want away anyway.

This really is going to be a 2 year rebuild hopefully. I can’t see us steamrolling the league next year if we are bringing in 8-10 players. That’s banking on all of them being successful which we know won’t happen.

It is concerning that Cook hasn’t got a tune out of them but what manager has here for a while now. Cool has a good record at his clubs so we have to place our trust in him. He deserves that from
The fans even if his record has been pretty poor so far.

Agree he should be given the Summer and a chance to assemble a new team even if a fair number of the current squad will still be here. It should be possible to assemble a side for promotion given the resources possibly available but the overall rebuild is a much longer job.

In the most recent games we have played something like 5 of the bottom 6 and returned 2 points. Sides that had scored less than us, hadn’t got wins in several games yet either took points off us or beat us. No idea how bad we must be when you think of it like that, seems reasonable to think we should be in top 6 really.

Lambert got more out of Hurst's squad than his predecessor did. It was a famous phrase being chucked out that "at least the performances are better" even if the results didn't pan out that way.

Keane got more out of Jim's squad for a couple of games at least.
Jewell got more out of Keane's squad for a bit before we slid backwards.
Mick... don't think anything needs to be said about how he improved us, or Hurst's subsequent impact.
Lambert improved us to start with even if results didn't go our way.
Cook has taken us backwards, which barely any of us thought was possible.

Of course that's one way to look at it. The other is to believe him and not think the first thing he said to us is a lie?

Yes, I don’t think any of us were expecting an instant turnaround but the level of muddle and confusion is both surprising and concerning. I can accept not resolving or chronic lack of creativity in a few weeks but the defensive incompetence of recent weeks suggests a lack of clarity about the set up. We’ve even lost the brief burst of effectiveness at scoring from set pieces that Gill seemingly added.

Evans remains largely to blame for his reluctance to sack Lambert when this season started to fall apart in the Autumn and I suspect that bringing four of his own loan signings in in January would have helped Cook more than the demoralised squad he inherited.

The only reason that Cook is still above Hurst for initial impact is that he hasn’t had a transfer window yet and Hurst made an absolute mess of the one he did have. Even Lambert made more impression in his first couple of months here.

The takeover remains the real saving grace for the season, with Evans’ slack approach to transfers the wouldn’t be much to look forward to. I still think Cook deserves the start of next season but he could hardly complain if he doesn’t even get that now.

Biggest concern (despite the fact everything has generally been worse), is that none of the younger players you'd expect to stay here have looked any better, in fact they've generally performed worse under Cook.

Agree 100% we were a team albeit tentatively on the verge of the PO - there wasn't that much wrong clearly. We were hardly a bottom 6 team devoid of all confidence. Well our form is now.

Not impressed with 1 thing he's brought to the club

Who has actually performed worse from the young ones?

I can't remember any performances of note from any of them through the whole season
