Dyer interview here from 21:29 on 21:59 - May 4 with 1725 views | BseaBlue | How good is it to have someone on the inside that can use his own experiences to make us better? The point he made about himself and Titus moving on to the Premier league as multi million pound players was very valid. Dyer is a huge asset to us.

Thought this bit was illuminating: 'He went to a three at the back, which pained him, but he thought that we had still had a chance for the play-offs so he would adjust to the players rather than the players adjusting to him. ... Then when he realised that wasn’t working he went back to what he believed rather than what works for the players.' Sounds like we were caught between an ineffective system and an unadaptable squad.

A large part of managing is about finding the best system and style of play to suit the players. Don't have to search further than SBR to know that. MM adapted greatly, realising that the calibre of player that ME's budget supported was only sufficient to play a direct, attritional style of football. Cook tried tinkering with the system, but did not succeed, and he knows it. The players were not capable (fitness, technical skills, and intelligence) of playing his favoured system, and he pretty much gave up on them. He will have a chance in the Summer to not only get in (much) better players, but get them to the required fitness levels, train/drill them, and motivate them and give them the self belief to succeed. Here's hoping!
