Thought I may as well return then, if nothing else to take the p*ss out of myself before the rest of you do! Lol.
Still read the forum but gave up writing music about 6 years back. Broke a load of fingers playing football and that was the guitar playing done. Which one of you made that wish!
The management game ... has been crawling towards a conclusion for about 4 years. Still not abandoned but had other things going on that took greater priority.
In terms of my time on TWTD what 10 years or so ago now ... I did take things a bit too seriously. I was a musician trying to get to whatever the limit of my ceiling was, which turned out to be playing some stuff I’d written to some reasonably sized audiences. That was about as far as I’d have gone no doubt.
Some people liked my music, some didn’t. It seemed to become cool online around the same time for the anonymous to just have a pop at anyone and be abusive and I was a pretty easy target as I was heavily promoting my music any way I could.
Had no issue with anyone thinking I wasn’t very good but at the same time my old gigging buddy Ed took off big time (where is he these days?) and I didn’t really appreciate the relentless abuse I was getting for a what I was - an average local musician. I was probably a bit of a tool in retaliation in hindsight!
Now for the cheese question.

You didn't come across as a tool to me I have to say, at least not that I noticed.
Usually civil enough.
Funnily, I sort of mentioned you in passing to someone just a couple of days ago. Not in name, but someone was talking about TV quiz shows and The Chase came up. I said that 'someone' from an online forum I use went on there.
The point was along the lines of the three [?] stages I'm sure you said had to be overcome before getting to the live shows.

Fair play to anyone who follows their passion I say. If you can make a few quid and travel a bit while doing something you enjoy, then who’s the real winner? Certainly not the bitter troll sitting on a message board abusing strangers I would suggest.
And I'm not sure the odd poster joining up within the past few years counts as 'old firm'.
When you see some of the names mentioned the past few days along the lines of dryas and newmie etc, this site in its present guise has barely even cooled in the scheme of things.

Here's a name from the past for you: Portman Lothario.

Happy to be corrected and/or better informed.
Thanks.
I can’t recall a third stage of audition. The second one was at Norwich right near the Cathedral.
Essentially they ran through some test rounds with 9 of us. Some guy was awesome and I got the second amount of questions right. So we made it. The other 2 that made it were the worst two who were ‘characters’. The middle five went home.
Quite clear they wanted a mix of people that might do okay and people that Bradley could have a laugh with.

Good times. Got to be on the radio, TV, songs played at Portman Road and some decent sized festivals. Much more than I ever expected and lots of good memories.

Ah ok. So was the first an over-the-phone thing?
I can't remember what you said before, sorry.
You had this 2nd stage of being quizzed as a vetting process for the show, and then what? How long until the recording day itself, or was it that same day?
Am interested to know how it works.
I have to say I'm one of those who does just fine at home but would possibly forget my own name under the lights.

I honestly can’t remember much more about the audition process than the little bit below.
First stage was phone yeah and then off to Naarwich for Round Two. Heard the next day I’d been selected and then it was about 3-4 months I think before I got a date for which show I’d be on and the date.
The bizarre thing was assuming that they had a chaser in per week or per day and filmed all their episodes in a block. The night before I bumped into The Beast getting off the train close to the studio so was convinced it was him and then out walks Ann on the day.
It’s strange how the environment plays a part. Not a nervous person at all. I got 5/6 questions right and knew 4/6 without any doubt but I said on three of them they were guesses just in case I came across confident and then got them wrong. No idea why I said that as watching it back I looked incredibly lucky to just be guessing. I was pretty fortunate with the questions I got.
Yet the whole thing I remember the experience for is our episode nearly being cancelled because another contestant through a massive tantrum.

I suppose there are one or two back ups on the day in case of any unforseen problems?
I've gone from being curious how it works to somehow thinking you run the thing, apparently!

It was insane.
We got told beforehand to not bring certain clothing - eg plain black - due to cameras and were told to bring several changes of outfit etc. So we wouldn’t clash.
The woman to my left brought one outfit. She was wearing that outfit no matter what. So the rest of us had to change but because she had a multicoloured number and three tops I had clashed in one way or another with her we had a problem. They offered her stuff from wardrobe but she refused and refused and this went on until the producer had to point out they’d have to pull the show.
So I basically agreed to wear whatever which is why I have an orange t shirt on under a blue cardigan and look an absolute state. Either that or not appear on the show! I at least got to wear my own jeans and boots!
To top it all off she was quite well to do apparently and a few seconds after we’d lost (with 2 seconds remaining) she started talking about how she didn’t need the money anyway (just under four grand each).
So my abiding memory is not of Bradley Walsh or The Chase set but the epic standoff with her attire that nearly got us cancelled before we’d begun!
