All this w@nking on about Scotland... on 11:11 - Jun 23 with 579 views | m14_blue | I was baffled by their reaction to the draw on Friday night. They had 2 games against the top 2 seeds and knew they needed to win one of them, they played excellently at Wembley and England were rotten. It looked like a real missed opportunity at the time and was very confusing to see their celebrations rather than frustration. Objectively, the draw looked like a much better result for England, and so it transpired.

All this w@nking on about Scotland... on 10:54 - Jun 23 by pointofblue | It was predictable - turn up at Wembley, put in a load of effort but then don’t show up against Croatia in the key match. If they played as they had against England they would have had a chance. |
Last night Croatia played extremely well. Modric was outstanding. By far the best performance of any team in the group. What you can say is that Scotland went for it in each game far more than England have in any so the entertainment level was good.

Croatia were ok but Scotland were abject, especially in the second half. If they had played like that at Wembley, England would have beaten them.

It was a tough one for them, on paper a draw at Wembley has to be regarded as a good result. They put it into their own hands going into the last group game, at home, which they probably would've taken before kick off against England. I can see why they would've taken the point and been happy with it, but the reaction did feel a bit OTT and I wonder if that impacted them last night. The first game screwed them really, Czech Republic were the side they needed to beat but the didn't take their chances, and the Czech's did.

Oh yes, can absolutely see why they would have taken the draw before kick off. But, given how the game panned out, I thought they would be frustrated when the whistle went and yet it seemed like they were delighted.

Think it was relief from the worry that we’d be going out that game. And it was a step in the right direction after the Czech game which was a massive, massive disappointment.

That's fair enough actually, hadn't really considered that it could have been all but over at the end of that game.

It's not "entertainment level(s)" that get you through to the next round in a tournament though is it. Some people appear to be finding this concept very hard to grasp.

I thought the performance against the Czechs was decent though; deserved more than a defeat.

Agreed. More the result, certainly. That was the game we really needed to win and we were knocked back by two brilliant Schick moments

I like to be entertained when I watch a game. England haven't offered that. After the years we've had at Town I thought that would be something people might agree with.

I get it. Ultimately it's a results business, but I can see why people aren't overly entertained by such a pragmatic approach. Its a style of football that's fine if you're winning, as the destination takes precedent over the journey, but the second the result isn't favourable, people will question why we didn't allow our undeniably talented players to play with a bit more attacking freedom. I think to be fair to Southgate he knows our limitations, and he's setting us up to give us the best chance of winning the thing, assuming we won't outplay and outscore a France or Germany. It's characteristic of Italian sides of the 80's and 90's, the sort of defence first teams Trappatoni put together. 1 goal conceded in the last 9 games is impressive, we just need to be a little more purposeful going forward.

Yup, their campaign was over as soon as they were well-beaten by the Czechs on their own turf. They were never going to get a win over England or Croatia. Let's not forget this is a country that got slapped 4-0 by the Russians and got their asses handed to them by Borat's Kazakhstan 3-0 in qualifying lmfao. They only got into the tournament because the Euros are now tinpot.

I like my side to have a strategy to win games + a winning mentality. In the context of international tournaments, entertainment is just a bonus if you can get that too.
