Anyone for the new "school song"? 10:25 - Jun 23 with 1387 viewsElderGrizzly

Being pushed by the DfE as something that should be sung at school. All a little bit North Korea isn't it?

Good morning Harry10 - one news thread on GB news to celebrate one day and it gets you comparing us to North Korea. Perhaps one day you should go there and let us all know if your comparison is real. Trust me you would want to return PDQ, and there would be no TWTD where you could peddle your views.

Think you're missing the point, this has been publicised by the Dept of Education - Grifting B'Stards News (mainly staffed by people who hate being told what to do by the Govt, and in fact would compare the Govt to NK regarding it's Covid lockdown requirements), are publicising this to do their bit to stoke the Great British Culture War (2016- ). It's their whole raison d'etre...

Methinks it is still mountains and molehills. We will be telling the Durham miners to cease singing the red flag next.

I think you will find the comparison with North Korea is all over the rest if the UK media - and I suspect the link to GB news was put up as a reflection of how totalitarian this dangerous nonsense is that even own our fascist broadcaster could see the connection

https://metro.co.uk/2021/06/22/government-urges-children-to-sing-bizarre-strong-

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-news-live-boris-johnson-up

https://www.theguardian.com/education/2021/jun/22/education-department-challenge

And given that I know if no other country that has it's children singing in schools a disturbing overtly nationalistic song other than North Korea, then the comparison is a reasoned comment.

Miners, in County Durham - are we still in the 1980s?

Besides which, they all vote Conservative now.

What with the catch-up funding fiasco and schools having to literally beg parents for handouts, it's good to see DfE has its priorities right.

Their Gala still takes place every year - or it would if it were not for Covid. Yes you are correct Brexit and Mr Corbyn did persuade them to switch allegiances. It is now up to the Labour movement to win them back - and win them back I hope they do. At the moment though they have made no progress.

It should be this or nothing. A proper school song.

Illis ut orantibus
Olim adfuisti
Utque laborantibus
Opus perfectisti
Nostra Schola, Domine
Nunquam te carebit
Quae Tuo vis nomine
Floreat Florebit!

Hic Papia tenderat
Ortus hic Augusta
Taeda quam incenderat
Nunquam est exusta.
Sit eorum Gloria
Nobili exemplo
Nobis in memoria
Dedicata templo.

Iam Scholam discipuli
Celebrant sonore
Non unius scripuli
Sit qui tacet ore!
Deus, sic manet Tuum
Opus,et manebit,
Salvum in perpetuum
Floreat Florebit!

Some US schoolchildren (not all) are required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every morning.
Not a song but still a bit nationalistic.

Awful song and awful concept.

Didn't think it could be worse than the pledge of allegiance in the US but they have managed it.

perhaps we should find out where it's being sung and go along and boo?

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show
