Opposing racism is nothing new, for some of us way past our half centuries this has been an ongoing battle. I’m not keen on the phrase woke, seems to be a term brought about by a younger generation? which is fine, but I’d prefer not to label myself.

The term "woke" was brought into fashion by Piers Morgan as a term of insult.
It has derivations from before that to do with standing up against injustice.
What does that really say about the politics of the likes of Morgan and anyone else who using the term as an insult?

If that’s true then that’s even more of a reason not to use it. Morgan is a knob.
I wouldn't choose to use it but I also would say that whilst meant as an insult we should ask why those using see it as insulting. What part of standing up for the rights of the oppressed is so offensive and threatening to them?

I say own it as a badge of honour!
One take on "woke" was that these are people who belong to a group (white) that are not directly affected by the issues (racism). It goes along the lines of "You don't hear black people complain about racism so why should you".
Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Indeed. They don't hear them at all. And it is uncomfortable for them to hear us so they want to shut it down.

I think it’s a generational thing, their parents were generally very racist in their views as were the generation before, i am not intelligent enough to break this down and look for the reasons as to why, that’s for others to do on here. Its the poorest in society wether they be white British (or English, Welsh or Scots) or other poor working class ethnic groups who always have the most to lose and this is and always has been played upon by those in power. Attitudes are changing and it’s good to see, the message is very simple, don’t be racist, be normal.

There is a degree of a generational thing. I have heard horrendous things from previous generations. However, there are plenty of racists among the younger generations.
A student wrote a racist comment on the desk in a classroom in our local school this week. You don't have to look far to see it.
