Confused about Covid 07:40 - Jul 21 with 3819 viewskiwiblue

I am worried about the situation in the UK with the current surge 50,000 a day and now 96 deaths yesterday, is this 4th wave despite the bulk of the population having had 2 jabs?

Although approach and outcomes have been totally different. Oz and presumably NZ actually face the same problem as us. Vaccine rates are going up and so will positive cases. The vaccine doesn't stop positive cases or hospitalisation full stop, it reduces them. 40% of people in hospital here have had both jabs but critically we aren't seeing proportional increase in mortality.

So when everyone in Oz and NZ is vaccinated and people start to get COVID and become hospitalised, what is the play? Continue to lockdown over 3 cases? Or live with it? I guess that is the experiment the UK is currently doing as a giant Petri dish.

....60% of people in hospital had no jab and 40% had either one or two jabs.

Vaccinations are key.

Yes vaccinations are key to managing Covid but they don't seem to make it go away by any stretch. How the world adapts to living with it is the challenge of the next few years.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I am terrified and instead of "learning to live with the virus" I am not living my life at all.

I thought having the 2 jabs would make me safe and that I could slowly start to resume my normal life. I am scared to go out, even to football, in case I meet with my parents and give my Dad the virus. He has COPD and other illnesses and has had 2 jabs but I don;t want to have to live my life locked in my house.

I have an operation imminent on my nose for a deviated septum, and am scared if I catch the virus in there. It was boiling and airless in there at my pre-op appointment Monday and even though I had a mask on (and struggled to contain my anxiety and breathing), had to remove it for various tests. A lot of the consultants were putting masks on and off even in the tiny little rooms.

I cannot do the LFT tests once my operation is done as my nose will be healing.

I do not want to live another year trapped in here, with frightening news every day, on every website I read, I am having a big birthday the end of this month, and having 4 family round who are all fully jabbed, and am scared that they will get ill.

I feel you- as someone who has underlying health conditions and very frail and vulnerable family members who wouldn’t be able to cope with the virus, even though they/we are double vaccinated.

How about sitting in less populated areas of the stadium, so you can still go and stay safe. You could start with these home friendlies when the crowd will be significantly smaller.

I hope everything with your operation goes well, I would still have it and just chance that you will be ok with the precautions you presumably will take. You could always isolate for a week afterwards, at least from your family/parents, whilst recovering to make sure you haven’t caught it.

You could have your family round for your birthday outside, in your garden if you have one, or theirs (presuming it’s your parents). If not, you could ask them to wear masks, socially distance or/and keep good ventilation by opening windows etc which would help you lower the risk.

Thank you - I know I bang on about here enough, and some people are sick of it, but its a vicious circle - I want to live, but finding it impossible to function.

Yes it would be my parents and husband and his mum and brother. We plan to sit out in the garden.

Sadly I cannot go to the friendlies as other stuff on, but I will see if case numbers come down before the first home game proper. I had dogs' abuse on the Facebook ITFC site when I said it would be nice if we could have IFollow coverage for people who are shielding etc or have the virus and cannot come to the games. Listening to it on Radio Suffolk is not going to be quite the same.

Don't worry about "banging on about it" on here. Fully understand how scary and frustrating the situation must be, as plenty of others on here do. I'm pleased that this is a place where people feel they can share these sorts of concern.

And I've no idea why you would have got abuse re the iFollow coverage, seems sensible to me given current circumstances, although I've no idea whether it's something being looked at.

It’s alright don’t worry. Exactly, but I think you should be able to find a way of living a quality standard of life whilst taking minimal risk for you and your family. Sounds good. Hmm, you could always start with Ips vs Newport in the EFL cup on 10th Aug or Ips vs West ham u21s in the Papa Johns cup 14th Sept if you want to give it a go with lower attendance.

I think it’s a difficult one from a clubs perspective. It would be hard for them to regulate who is actually shielding/have the virus etc, and who just wants to pay £10 instead of a minimum of £30 by coming to the stadium. You shouldn’t be getting abuse for asking though, some people get wound up by the smallest of things.

It is sad when anyone has to think twice before posting for fear of the response. Phil is doing his best to improve the atmosphere and a number of the usual suspects are no longer with us.

It is encouraging to read the reason why you are unable to go to the friendlies because you have other things on.

I would be good if the club offered Ifollow match coverage to any season ticket holder who felt unable to attend games at this time, but suspect they fear it would be abused.

It's really interesting as case loads are ever increasing and deaths rising. 1 death is to many but the government accepting that cases will spiral to 200k per day means they are prepared to accept further life loss which is horrible.

Next round of vaccines is to start soon with key health workers having been notified that their third jabs will come as soon as 9 months after the first.
