Wesley Fofana Tackle 23:01 - Aug 4 with 4440 viewsLeeds_Blue

What a horror tackle should absolutely under no circumstances be made in pre season, I know we were complaining about the dobra bullying but this is on a different level no one should have to leave the pitch for the entire season before it even starts!

I’d like to see a lengthy ban but we know the governing bodies, if someone doesn’t get a ban for using a racial slur then this won’t! But you never know!

Good to see he’s alright with his Instagram story being retweeted below

That and the smoking and drinking.

The other day I watched a documentary about when Wenger took over at Arsenal. Ex-players like Lee Dixon all stated how far ahead Wenger was in stamping out a lot of the drinking culture, banning smoking and insisting on a good diet.

Seems old that until then a lot of players didn’t look after themselves. Got me to thinking of Ipswich had introduced something similar in the 70s or 80s whether players would have had more in their locker (as they played over 60 games with a squad of 14).

I personally don’t think the tackle was actually that bad, think Fofana is just extremely unlucky his leg gets trapped underneath the players body.

Don’t think it also makes any difference being pre-season or a league game, you ain’t going to go into a tackle any softer just because it’s pre-season.

Watch it again. I think it's a shocker. The initial challenge/contact is fine but the way he continues wrapping his right leg round means all his weight is on Fofana's leg underneath him. He knew exactly what he was doing and could have pulled out way earlier.

Sorry as a Leicester fan this is an absolutely awful take. The spiteful Spaniard has come to hurt Wes Fofana after losing his temper about the ref playing on for what he perceived a foul. If you watch it you'll see that he followed through by swept his trailing leg around in an attempt to trap and ultimately break Fofanas leg, this after he'd already gone in high and full force and snapped clean through his ankle. Fuming, it's GBH and I hope karma gets that horrible piece of work sooner rather than later.

I disagree with the analysis of the initial challenge. It looked a strong challenge and, if he did contact the player first (I am not at all sure from those two angles that he did), a foul and possibly a yellow card. From the evidence here I think the original challenge was fine, though.

However, from the moment that he does end up trapping Fofana's leg, everything else that he did in wrapping his other leg round and following through with it is dangerous and a clear red card.

I cannot comment on the context and what happened before as I haven't seen it. If it is clear that it is retaliation for something just before and that contributes to evidence that it was deliberate and malicious, then a lengthy ban would be merited. Without that evidence, I still think it should be treated as a red card offence and receive a commensurate ban.

The argument here though is where else is his other leg supposed to go? No one wants to see a player break their leg or suffer serious injuries but the guy wins the ball first. Certainly see players get away with worse.

Be interested to see how many people who think this is a horrendous tackle actually play football.

It does not look a natural body action for him to wrap his second leg round Fofana's standing leg. Indeed, he even follows through on that action.

I would love to see a few ex-players and someone like Dermot Gallagher's reactions to it.

100% this, it’s almost like in real life the tackle took place in less than a second and not in slow motion like the replay

Highlighting crass stupidity since sometime around 2010

The laws of physics do not require to swing his second leg round in a different direction to his momentum and wrap it around Fofana's standing leg.

He could, possibly, claim he was especially keen to get up again and it was his enthusiasm to get back on his feet but I am not convinced. As I say, it is one I would like to here a few more expert opinions on than yours and mine.
