The problem with asking for patience because we have a new team that needs time to gel... is that it implies a high degree of confidence bordering on a guarantee that its a question of WHEN and not IF this rebuild will be successful.
While I am hopeful, I do have some question marks over Paul Cook and a number of new the signings - certainly the TWTD reaction to the later has been absurdly positive, as if every player we have signed is definitely "great"...

Without the benefit of hindsight I'd say the start of the ME era was more exciting. He came in promising investment and a swift return to the Prem and we spent big at a time when very little money was being spent in the Championship. Getting back to the top flight looked a live possibility.
I'd also say the start of every season from around 1998 to 2001 was more exciting given what Burley was building and given that it ended with Prem football and then European football the year after. I'd even say a couple of seasons around 2004-2006 were more exciting as we knew we would be in the hunt for challenging for promotion to the Prem.
First season back in the top flight in 92/93 I'd say was more exciting too.
I've only chosen times I can remember but I'd imagine there's been numerous other seasons from 1970 to now that have been more exciting at the start than being in the third tier and failing to win either of our first two games. | |
