We have one of the best squads in the league. At the moment there are two challenges.
Firstly, there has been a lot of publicity about all the players we've bought and we're seen as a big scalp, this gives our opponents a boost and they play with a commitment and togetherness that we, as a totally new group of players, have failed to match.
Secondly, the players haven't developed the confidence and self-belief to dominate teams. In last night's game this was clear in the way we responded to taking the lead, instead of driving home the advantage, we took our foot of the gas, content to retain possession but not to urgently push for a second goal (Bonne's miss excepted). This allowed the opposition to gain a foothold and when they equalised and instead of responding with aggression we withdrew and seemed content to settle for a draw.
One or two good wins will give the team the confidence, self-belief , resilience and togetherness to shoot up to the top of the league and stay there. |  |

I think you’ll probably be proven right.
However, with each poor result my ‘will get it right’ to ‘hope we’ll get it right’. The team do need more time, this isn’t the time to turn against them or the manager. But he does need to start showing he can get a team to get results because in about 16 matches and with two different teams he hasn’t shown it here yet. |  |

I still think it terms of experience and footballing ability, we did. The problem was mentality, we were so utterly fragile as a collective, were stuck in a rut, had stopped believing we could succeed and had essentially downed tools. There is no better evidence for that than the complete non-response Cook got from those players when he came in. If you read around for what players who have played under him have said, Cook is relentlessly upbeat, hugely enjoyable to work for and utterly driven to succeed. The fact that the squad he inherited largely did not want to know, says everything about where we were at as a club. |  |

Eh? Almost the entire squad have played in L2 and L1 for most of their career. The idea that they're all too waif-like and technical for lower league football is daft. |  |
