New lockdown looming for Scotland 09:12 - Aug 26 with 8265 viewsGlasgowBlue

Just three weeks after so called freedom day.

Cases have been doubling week on week for the last three weeks whilst cases in England have been either showing a very small increase or a drop like yesterday.

Big mistake not opening up when England did. Instead we have kicked the can down the road, missed the good weather and school holidays, and timed freedom day with the schools going back. Madness.

Looks like I’ll be closing again once again very shortly. Of course Niola will no doubt blame Boris.

That can't be right. According to Our World In Data, Northern Ireland has the highest number of cases per 100,000 with 91.91, Scotland second with 72.46, Wales third with 50.39 and England fourth with 47.21.

edit. Some positive news for NI. They have seen a reduction in new cases for two consecutive days. And Wales has leveled off.

Well according to that, our corner of rural England has 25 x the national figure! (albeit we are in a fairly popular tourist area, but not as 'hot' as the Lake District or Devon/Cornwall).

Ah the use of the word estimate, bit like a general election exit poll? We all know how accurate they are!

It's okay to not understand how research works, but to be a dick about it takes the biscuit.

3rd day in a row that cases in England are less than the previous week.

Is England getting close to herd immunity, driven by the vaccine and number of people who have already been infected?

That’s why I prefer to refer to them as educated guesses and not estimates, typically they are made by people who are actually educated.

Very much doubt we're getting close to herd immunity, no doubt Badger will be far better informed than me on that though.

I'm now thinking it more likely that when the nurse gave the number of cases & said "in the town", she actually meant the catchment area for the surgery, not just the centre it's based in. That would probably double, if not triple the population my calc was based on, so obviously put us closer to England generally.

I would wait and see what case numbers look like in England a week or so after schools go back before assessing the different approaches.

So two weeks after the schools opened in England there was a small increase in cases but now for the second day running they are reporting fewer cases than the same day in the previous weeks.

in Scotland cases doubled the weeks the schools re opened. I posted data showing that the majority of cases were from the 18-24 group.

Do you now agree that it was foolish to hold back on relaxing restrictions during the summer months and ill judged to relax them at the same time as the kids went back and the weather cooled?
