I am talking if the energy company files for a CCJ and the ruling of that CCJ is then not honoured. Was just wondering. No personal experience, thankfully.
Callis seems to be coming to this from his own personal perspective,
A CCJ or wages arrestment may have little effect on his life. But if you are a young couple with a baby then having your power supply turned off for non payment is not an option. If you are a young couple looking to get a mortgage to put a more secure roof over your family's head then a poor credit rating and a wages arrestment isn't an option.

Last time I did it for a parking PCN for parking in my own flat space without my permit they ended up chasing me with a 50% reduced rate and then moving on. Not heard anything in well over a year and a half now.
I fully recommend everyone tests the system a bit here and there.

I’m just pitching ways to push back and protest. As you seem to object to most. As mentioned, they can’t come after all of us.
Think we should be looking at the Poll Tax riots for direction personally. Or carry on being exploited.

Can't turn off power/gas/water at a domestic property as far as I know.
Water in the UK is covered by human rights these days. Think energy isn’t but they can force entry with a meter if certain actions are met by the person they are chasing.
I mean arguably you should be boycotting Anglia Water too, plenty to read there on Fergal Sharkey (yes, The Undertones singer) and the legal battles thrown by him their way lately.
The crap on TV like “Can’t Pay, Take it Away” is propaganda by corporate interests (and ties in well at our nation’s weird obsession with “circus freak” poverty porn).
It is your moral duty to partake in civil disobedience and stop funding exploitation/corruption :)

Exactly this. Too many energy revolutions on the cusp investing in loads of nuclear stations could be like buying a load of Nokia 3310s in 2001.
It’s also worth noting that despite you being right on countries having their own approaches we need an agreed approach globally - one where we also help the developing world do the right things long term without making a mess of their homelands (which we are already doing in large parts by exploiting labour and resources).
Sadly, I just don't see it happening that way. From a development perspective, the whole thing is already a bun fight between Countries to see who can prove their concept first and make the most $$$$. Bods from all over the world are scurrying around trying to get their concept design (of which their appear to be numerous) off the ground. The one thing we can be certain of currently, is that any kind of commercially viable plant will cost a sh*t ton of money to build and that of course is what will kill any hope this becoming something to bring mankind together, the 1% will not allow it to be so.
New wonderful technology, same old approach to keeping the poor, poor.

Just had a look. They can cut you off.
Standard Licence Condition 27 states that your suppler must not disconnect you during the winter months if you are a pensioner living alone, disabled or chronically sick.
Social services can step in if there are children deemed to be vulnerable involved.
They have to give you 7 days notice and have exhausted all means to come to a repayment arrangement. But they can cut you off.

What they can do and the hoops they have to jump through to be legally able to do so are quite different things. And we personally have more control of that than we are led to believe if you know your rights.

Which again is fine for a switched on single young guy like you. But not so good for an old widow living on her own getting threatening letters through the post or a young couple with a baby.

Agree. But it starts with empowering society with that information to begin with.
We’re all in this together. I am Sparticus. Etc!
Also, not single. Haven’t been for over a year now :)
Also, I’m in my mid 30s now so I think “young” is no longer a thing I can claim. I am a guy though.

All this talk reminded me that I have a pile of bills to work through, which I'm going to have to do right now, I'm sure some of it has been here in a pile of unopened letters for days

Cracking, I just discovered a "Notice of Intended Prosecution" from avon and somerset police, that'll be the wedding I attended there a couple of weeks ago, joy. 45 in a 40 zone apparently, on the M4, the M4 ffs, 40mph limit on the M4, we spent most of the journey doing 15 to 20mph on the M4!!

The ones involving the government directly worry me more as they do have more power. Although from experience of others i know and have seen those debts also just end up being sold to a private company. All the government really wants is money, you are an automated number on a computer system that occasionally prints and posts you a bill and/or threat.
Quite laughable really, if everyone cottons on to the fact all they have to rule us is fear the elite are doomed. Hence why they need cancel culture and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories invented by the Nazis to keep us distracted.
Fascism needs a new game, although sadly it still works.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
Surely if they are strong enough to withstand weather and spinning around all the time, not to mention they can be cut, the logical approach would be use them for building material or a shell of a building? Helps the housing crisis too.
The short sightedness of capitalism and the markets strikes again - Perhaps if we had politicians and business requirements not so rooted in self-interest and short term profit this stuff wouldn't happen.
I've never seen the wholesale market so insane before
I work for the commercial aspect of an energy company and this front season has been batsheet crazy. Aint us who is profiting here... that's for sure.
I think a lot of people would be very shocked if they could see everything we do, and also how much of the unit rate is not taken off for 3rd party charges/energy itself...

Can't turn off water, can turn off other utilities for non payment of bills.
For those who don't have mains water (there are more than you'd think, incl me), cutting off their electricity will usually mean their water's also cut off, because elec pumps are needed to get the water from well or borehole to house (unless they're lucky enough to have an Artesian Well).

That's exactly what I meant when I said on a different thread (about the M25 protests a week or two ago) that if various UK govts. had had the nous to see the potential for ££profit of renewables (manufacturing & servicing the hardware & tech) never mind all the environmental benefits, they'd have switched from pouring their R&D support & subsidies for fossil fuels into renewables, whilst simultaneously switching their personal investments in the same way. Renewables could have been the new giant, profitable, industry for the UK in place of 20thC fossil fuels if the will had been there - we certainly had the engineering & tech skills.
For the Tories, supposed "party of business & entrepreneurs", they sure missed that opportunity, or were too lazy/corrupt/happily cosy on the fossil fuel gravy train, to set about making it happen.
