They were totally slaughtered for being Hurst signings ("dross" etc) and have had strange Town careers but now they are mainstays in the current squad. Well done to both of them, it says alot about their character.

What did you think of Nsiala’s performance last night?

Typical Toto looked pretty good the 2 unforced errors apart just glad they didn't cost us last night the one just after we had scored and seconds before half time when he was last man and all but stood on the ball with two Portsmouth attackers closing him down was a real heart in the mouth moment for me .

He skinned them and played a nice pass into midfield. No idea what you were so worried about.

Not really. Toto has only just returned to the team due to Burgess being crap against Cambridge. JD is only starting because KVY hasn't been anywhere near the player he was before the injuries. Hardly ''mainstays''. Both are bog-standard L1 players.

On top of that there were several moments when he was too afraid to take a touch for fear of his own ability in the ball so he kicked it out of play. With the greatest respect, even at the level I played at, it’s just not good and was always a last resort.

He got away with it last night. Yes, first game back but it’s a disaster waiting to happen and what’s worse is, we all know it and even worse still, he clearly does too.

Actually Keanish, I think the kicking it into touch was a plan
Edmundson and penney both did the same when facing their own goal.

I have a feeling Walton isn't great with the ball, so we won't see it going back to him to often and we'll see more throws given away.. safety first.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.

Yes i agree , team man with a big heart but never too far away from an unforced error sadly .

Thought that at the time. I think he did just what he intended to - trapped the ball and rolled it out.

It's quite funny really, probably two players who we've tried quite hard to get rid of in every year since we've been here but we have been stuck with (in part due to the mad contracts we gave them).

Donacien is probably having his best spell for us atm, but his signing has to go down as one of the worst/funniest we've made given the circumstances around it.

Nsiala I just can't have as a competent defender because of the way that he just makes mistakes constantly. Another two almost unbelievable errors last night for a player that has 200+ senior matches and turns 30 next season.

You are certainly right that they both have character in abundance, and neither of them have ever let us down in terms of effort, endeavour or attitude. Happy to have them around, but think we can improve on both.

I just don't get why when we are in a great run of form, playing the best football seen from a Town team in almost 20 years, people need to slag of some of our players. Especially these two, who as the OP said have shown great character And as for Toto always having a mistake in him - it is easy to not make mistakes if you don't do anything. Toto is absolutely committed, he gets to so many balls and works like hell to protect the keeper. Anybody who does that will make the odd mistake, to criticise him for it is totally unfair. And a couple of years ago when he got sent off a couple of times, I remember analysing the tackles and felt he was very harshly red carded for at least one.
We are starting to really gel and find our best 11, and that includes Toto and Janoi, lets get behind them and the rest of the team because confidence plays a big part. If they have great seasons and we get promoted, maybe they can win places at the next level up.

Emperor's new clothes, basically. Both of the new CBs have looked shaky and Burgess is horrible on the ball but unlike Toto he doesn't realise he is so tries to play and often ends up getting in a pickle as a result. Edmondson probably made the most glaring error of any of the defenders on Tuesday and ended up having to take a booking as a result. Really sloppy ball from him that could have led to something worse. And yet you'll see nothing but praise for Edmundson's performance on here, and he had a good game overall so praise is warranted, but Toto really didn't do a lot wrong and also did some very good defensive work and yet still many slate him.

…because of mistakes we’ve thrown away way too many points already this season. Continue to do that and we won’t go up, simple as that. Mistakes need to be eradicated and Nsiala is too unpredictable. This isn’t a new conversation, it’s been the same from day one. No one is slagging Nsiala off, we’re pouring out the very obvious flaws which are a concern as shown Tuesday night.

Toto has only started 3 games this season. Of those, we've drawn one and won two. I think you need to look elsewhere to blame for the points we have thrown away.

Indeed. On what we've seen to date, I'm not entirely convinced that Burgess represents an upgrade either though. It does feel like we shopped at Waitrose for our attacking options and then quickly nipped to the local Spar on the way home for some defenders.

Best comment on here. Sums up the team perfectly.

Nsiala is a solid defender just not in playing out from the back. Don't need that at this level. Just need somebody like him with strength and ability to put a good tackle in. Donacian has done really well and Chaplin said they are starting to work together so would expect more Chaplin goals from Donacian crosses. Donacian still gets dragged across the pitch too much though and loses defenders. Look the Cambridge goal.

Generally our defensive shape is actually really poor.

If we got promoted would we be looking for either to be a starter?

Think both have done well this year esp JD but if imagine they would be 1st on the list to move on if we went up

Over the past couple of seasons we never seem to lose when Kenlock plays either (ok i know he cant play league games ) but i dont think many would have him in the squad over Coulson or Penny ! Funny old game .
