Without turning this into an argument which unfortunately some people will I can see both sides of the story here.

"For me, black lives have mattered since I was born. Not just because there was an international movement," said De Kock.

"The rights and equality of all people is more important than any individual.

"I was raised to understand that we all have rights, and they are important.

"I felt like my rights were taken away when I was told what we had to do in the way that we were told.

For those still not sure what white privilege is or looks like, it looks like a white man complaining his rights are being taken away by being asked to participate in a simple, peaceful gesture in support of racial equality and better treatment of people of colour.

His real name is Quinton de Fox but he was too embarrassed to be associated with the name so opted for Kock as a less shameful moniker

Other people may of course find it unlikely that a white South African isn't racist.

But he says he isn't, so that's cleared that up.

You're not, as I can verify that Rome was in fact built in a day.

I wonder if those who approve of him exercising his rights not to take the knee are in any way related to those who complain about people not wearing poppies.

Not taking the knee is his right he shouldn't be told he has to he's there to do his job (play cricket) the same as people not wearing the poppy is there choice no criminal law is broken in either case so people need to accept the choices made by other humans

If he decided to get pissed on the day of the game in contravention of rules decided upon by team bosses that would also be his right and he also wouldn't have broken any laws. He would face sanctions for breaking agreed rules though, and rightly so. If he feels so strongly about not taking the knee then he doesn't have to do it, but there will be consequences. I also have to question why someone would be so vehemently against taking the knee that they would go down that route.

I believe De Kock has previously been quite outspoken in support of Black rights so I don't think it's as simple as him being racist. We had him on a virtual event a while back and he's a pretty unusual guy so I can imagine him struggling to express what he means in the right way.
