Walton appreciation thread 18:43 - Nov 17 with 2632 views | Keaneish | I’d be doing everything I could to make Walton my number one target this January if I were Cook; him and Bonne, of course. Prevented Wycombe from getting back in it with a fantastic save, pulled off a world class save against Oxford which doesn’t seem to have received much praise, penalty save and another great stop last night to keep us in the FA Cup… Poor performance against Bolton aside, he’s been outstanding recently. His distribution with throws and kicks is excellent as is his ability to claim crosses. He’s a presence and commands his box well. Where does he rate for you amongst our keepers in the last ten years (arbitrary time span)?

Hladky was an absolute mess, particularly commanding his area. Every cross into our box looked in danger of a goal. Makes such a difference for a defender when you have total confidence your keeper is going to come for everything. |
I don't disagree with you and Chris. There's obviously a symbiotic relationship there. Would be interesting to see how things went for Hladky now for a couple of games now the team as a whole and the defence is more bedded in.

I really hope Hladky comes through this experience strongly Phil, it would be to the team’s benefit in the long run. It certainly appears a self confidence issue as you pointed out he was highly rated at previous clubs. I wonder if it’s the expectations and pressures he needs time to adjust to here as well? Playing for Salford or St Mirren in front of a couple of thousand isn’t quite the same as walking out in front of 20k+ at PR. If and when he gets his next opportunity, I hope he shows us all what he is truly capable of.

Indeed, would hope that he gets the chance to prove himself at a time when the team is less in a state of flux.

Walton appreciation thread on 10:12 - Nov 18 by PhilTWTD | Everyone I've spoken to who saw Hladky last season has said he was exceptional for Salford, the best keeper in the division etc. Seems widespread surprise that he has had such a poor time of it since he moved here. While I'm sure there's something in the stats improving with Walton there, I suspect he's also been assisted by the team in front of him being better than it was when Hladky was starting, assuming that isn't taken into account in some way by their stats. |
He needs time to adjust himself, Walton is only on loan ATM so he should be looking to get himself back to a level. Sometimes it takes time to settle into new surroundings

Of course in his season at Salford he was, like everyone else, playing in front of nobody at all.
