Children In Need. 15:31 - Nov 19 with 2258 viewsBlueBadger

(Stolen from a mate of Mrs Badger).

Tonight when you watch Children in Need please remember that, all being well, and sometimes against all odds those disabled kids you see could grow up to be...disabled adults.
The shock of turning 18 when you're disabled is huge,
1) you're suddenly can't access a lot of healthcare, no more special clinic with all the facilities it needs to treat you, you're just a regular out patient now
2) And this is the one people can help with. When you TRY to do something under 18 you're "inspirational" or "doing your best" or just "A Great Kid", for example, being in goal and trying to play football.
As an adult the MOMENT you show any activity that isn't work you're a benefit cheat (whether you're on benefits or not) and "faking it" and "the worst kind of scum". I've had abuse yelled at me for doing the exact same thing I got praise for as a kid. Yes I can, on good days do somethings, but OMG I'll be paying for it the next day, week, month, lifetime (ask those who knew me at the time about the difference in me before and after China).
So if Children in Need gives you the warm fuzzies then PLEASE I implore you to treat disabled adults with the same compassion and above all else, UNDERSTANDING

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

No, that's not the case.

Yeah but Chico believes it and that's all that matters.

See my previous post, with some numbers in it. Basically, the past decade has seen child poverty return to the figures seen when Labour came to power in 97: all the gains made by Labour have been wiped out.

Ah thank you

Respectfully, you are the one stating you believe that the figures are the same and it's really on you to do your own research on this. It'll take you about 2 minutes. Someone else has already posted figures on the rise in child poverty under the Tories but it's very easy to do further research if you'd like to know more about this subject.

If you’re so sure then you’ll easily be able to post them but fair enough, I don’t disagree.

Believe it was around 3.5mill. So the number of kids in poverty will rise by an almost perfectly neat 2mill by the end of next year. Joking aside, it’s a despicable record and I don’t know how they sleep at night. It should make each and every one of us ashamed.

Seeing as it's you, here's some facts and figures, and there's a handy table in there showing the rate as a % increasing steadily since 2010: https://www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/2020/06/22/fact-checking-claims-about-c

This is an old image. You don't need 85 of them now. We need wealth taxes.

The BBC says that 20% of children were in poverty in 2010, it’s surprisingly difficult to find a similar report for recent years. As you say though however you cut it it’s absolutely criminal.

There is an exercise I once saw where a large bar of chocolate gets shared out among a sizeable group of people in the same way that wealth is distributed globally.

Whilst one person gets a large proportion of the bar, there are a significant number that get one chunk to share between them.

Many will argue that the richest already pay more and try to claim trickle-down economics but the truth is that we live in a terribly unequal society/world and it is only increasingly unequal in its distribution.
