See the NFL are whoring themselves again, this time to Germany 13:23 - Feb 10 with 2662 views | Illinoisblue | Munich, Spurs, Twickenham and the Azteca in Mexico now all hosting NFL games. Surely won’t be long before the Premier League tries again to do the same. Please riot and don’t let it happen.

See the NFL are whoring themselves again, this time to Germany on 14:26 - Feb 10 by SamWhiteUK | It seems, from the media at least, that there is quite a big interest in NFL over here. Can't understand why, myself. Boring sport and there can't be enough people over here that have a vested interest in a team to make it worthwhile? |

See the NFL are whoring themselves again, this time to Germany on 14:53 - Feb 10 by Churchman | I had a quick look on Wikipedia and quite a few teams haven’t had a designated home game. They include Washington, Cowboys, Bears, Patriots, Broncos, Packers, Giants, Lions, Panthers, Chargers, Jets, Eagles. These teams have been, but as the away team. I’ve no idea how it’s decided, but I’m sure there must be good financial advantage in giving up a home game. |
Only 13 of the 32 teams have "hosted" home games in the UK, although some of those have had multi-year deals. Every team except for the Packers have played at least one game over here, but clearly the majority of those have been "away" teams. The Packers are one of the better supported teams, so the theory is they haven't been here yet as their opponents would miss out on hosting a marquee team in their own stadium. But yes, the majority of the historically popular / well supported teams in the US are yet to have to give up a home game, while others have had more than one. I'm a Saints fan & they're rumoured to be one of the "home" teams this year, having also done that in 2008. The local fans in the US aren't happy about losing a home game, although I'll make sure I get tickets so I'm not going to feel overly sorry for them!

I have no vested interest in any team. I just like watching good games and there are plenty of them.

As I said on the thread a few weeks ago, barely watched a full game (a few superbowls) until the last 8 (whatever they call it) when all 4 games were decided by a few points? I watched 3 and one was too late for me to stay up for so just watched the highlights of that. All 4 were great games! I'm guessing they aren't all like them. Anyhow, i have more than a passing interest in this Superbowl now. Don't let me down haha

Cricky, where have you been for the past 30 years. Do your mates still wear those shirt number things that tie up your foitball socks. The NFL in this country is massive. I know the Prem League is all about money these days but you can't liken the NFL to football. Everthing about it has roots in comercialism, but it just works. The Americans do it so well. Uk fans tend to have a favoured team but are happy to watch all teams provided the match up is even. The NFL draft system works brilliantly. The worst teams get priority to select the best college players . Therefore if you follow a naff team at least you have something to look forward to the following season. With a few exceptions of good/bad management, over a short period all teams seem to get a period of challenging for the Superbowl. The financial contracts are generally split even between all teams. (i think stadium revenue etc is different). In general with football, the six or so top teams will always be near the top due to their financiak strength and being able to buy up smaller clubs best players. There are odd exceptions (Leicester), but that rarely lasts over a long period. Other teams have come into the equation but thats due to the next oil shiek wanting to play Prem Owner. The top Prem clubs have very little care/knowledge of what happens outside their greedy financial bubble. The rest of us just hope for an odd season above mediocrity. With football if you have a bad year your punished. Drop down a divisor and get less income, sell your best players, then the cycle contiues.

Ta for that. I listed them off the top of my head. I’m amazed so few have been the home team over here. The NO Saints like a number of the teams have a long waiting list for season tickets, I believe. I’d love to see a game in New Orleans. I did see the Saints trample all over the Miami Dolphins a few years ago.

You should go, I've been there 3 times & the atmosphere in the Superdome is unbelievable. It's a great city as well, nowhere else like it with the mix of culture, food, history, music etc, it's just a brilliant place to visit
See the NFL are whoring themselves again, this time to Germany on 11:14 - Feb 11 with 478 views | Hipsterectomy | The poor spread of teams across the country doesn’t help. When your nearest NFL team are 2 or 3 states away, probably the distance between us and Germany or greater, why not just pick the best one at that point?

See the NFL are whoring themselves again, this time to Germany on 14:53 - Feb 11 with 428 views | ElephantintheRoom | Actually I’d be delighted if all Premier League games were played abroad. I’d also quite like clubs to be located where the money comes from. Chelsea at Putin’s dacha, Man City and Newcastle in their Oil States and Scouse Franchise in New England, Spurs at an offshore tax haven etc. As to the NFL it’s a meritocracy with a huge and growing global fan base. Teams don’t play everybody every year and all teams have bought into the idea. The UK has a large and growing interest in NFL - hence the constant sell outs in London.
