InitialLy during nighttime hours, as Putin is worried over escalation of protesting/disobedience

I wonder how long the Russian people continue with their ‘support’ of Vlad

The internet the Russian public have access o bears no resemblance to the internet you and I have access to.

I was discussing this with a banker friend who is a regular visitor to China. He says that when you search certain pages that you would access here they come back blank.

I just read about an appeal for Russian speakers around the world to directly contact people inside Russia to tell them what is happening. Makes sense.

"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."

Chatting with a UK based Russian this week. She said her kids (in 30s) were well up on what was going on. Her sister however was fully aligned with the state news/kremlin line.

Seems there is very much an age divide based on people's news access. If people want to know what's happening they can find out, but Putin defo just made it harder.

It would have a significant effect upon Russian business. Which would, in turn, further damage the economy.

Plus in an information vacuum, people tend to start asking questions. Such as: "What are they hiding?"

Ah, yes 👍

Interesting, thanks, I did wonder what news content they're able to see/hear, for starters.

There was an interesting R4 docu last week on the art of whistling, including the story of a female spy in WW2 who was able to whistle codes to the French Resistance because whilst the Germans could block speech and even orchestral music, whistling is unblockable. Ditto short-wave radio couldn't be jammed, hence the value of that.

Isn't that already going to happen as various sources that they have become accustomed to hearing are censored?

As for the vain hope of a coup, hasn't it happened in other places when the leader has pushed his luck too far? Or am I simply being too naïve? One way or another the world needs Putin dead soon and not replaced with someone as unstable.

Makes perfect sense. Contrasts in the respective information and source consumption certainly explain the huge disparity between the young and old’s support for the war even right at the start.

I wonder how Russian people view this. They must realise this is censorship surely? There are already numbers protesting. How close are we to a tipping point where the people rise against the Government? A long way? The need for people near the top to join?

A very long way away sadly

Probably but I also suspect that if it ever does get close, the first we would know is when the attempt has happened (or maybe not even soon after an unsuccessful one).

The fall of the Berlin wall and all that followed seemed to come very much out of the blue from what I can recall but I am no historian and perhaps there were lots of signs leading up to it.
