So now the season is over 11:42 - Apr 5 with 6046 views | chicoazul | What do we all think of the much-heralded players we bought in last year? For me there are only a few unqualified successes; Walton Edmundson Burns Chaplin. I’d say Morsy is very borderline as he misses so many games. Aluko and Evans have as many indifferent games as good. Burgess to be fair has come back very strong after a tough start. The rest have failed. Of the loans well, I’d break the back to keep Celina, Thompson has been a nett positive, Bonne ok a bad second half of the season but where would we be without his earlier form? Barry and Coulson catastrophic failures. It is of course the usual banter era irony (and hopefully the final one) that the best players of the McK era so far are a couple of Hurst signings and a youth player.

So now the season is over on 12:39 - Apr 5 by itfcjoe | The season has been a huge disappointment, a 3rd year in League 1 and a 3rd year where we haven't even troubled the play offs - despite having a much bigger budgeted squad. There was too much change last summer to hit this one already on the run, and then we continued to add to squad through window and ended up basically writing it off by Xmas. There will likely be 7-8 in and the same going out this summer, but realistically we will go into next season with a solid spine to build from, and with a proper manager to get us prepped and ready for the early start to next season - important we it ground running and with what we have lined up for next year already we should be sufficient in that regard. There is a very blue tinted spec view of things, of how great it is to be able to have loads of players to choose from for POTY - and how that compares to previous seasons - when points wise all 3 seasons at this level are much of a muchness and league positions will be. |
With regards to squad churn, if we could sign Celina and Bakinson on permanents and keep hold of Ndaba, Baggott, Humphries and Simpson I think we could have a 25 man squad with only 2 new additions (LWB and striker) Walton (Hladky, Hayes) Donacien (Baggott) Woolfenden (Ndaba) Edmundson (Burgess) Burns (KVY, Edwards) Morsy (El Mizouni) Evans (Bakinson, Humphries) New LWB (Penney) Celina (Aluko) New Striker (Chaplin) Jackson (Simpson) Obviously that will change if a couple of players we don't expect to leave end up departing as I'm sure they will. But equally the likes of Pigott, Carroll and Harper could end up staying on.

So now the season is over on 17:57 - Apr 5 by Guthrum | Aluko has the ability to beat defenders around the edge of the box. He can carry the ball through and get it on to those attacking the goal. Not just a skill, but a very useful one for fluid play. |
I like Sone and think we should keep him, but his assists count for this season is ... 0. He's our 15th best player for chance creation this season.

That's a bit misleading. He's playing the ball before the assist (or the one before that). Which still needs doing, but is not credited in the same way.

You're right, Sone does offer a lot more than the headline figures suggest, which is why I think he's a useful player to have around. However... it's not that misleading. I don't think you could point to loads of goals that come about because Sone's picked a lock, not like Santi.

So now the season is over on 12:26 - Apr 5 by franz_tyson | You might even add Donacien to the list as I thought he'd be binned. Like a new signing and excellent under both Cook and McKenna. More hits than misses for me.... but did we need all of Chaplin, Celina and Aluko? Alll players I like, but too much in one area of the team. Can't believe Morsy is considered border-line. Most important player we've got. If more players had a bit more mongrel in them we could share around the yellows out a bit more. I'd bring in a couple more like Morsy for next season and stop getting too puritanical about .... we're still too soft for L1. |
He is only considered borderline by chizoual. I wouldn't put too much store from that.
So now the season is over on 08:36 - Apr 6 with 321 views | ElephantintheRoom | Just about right depending on personal opinion of some that don’t make your A list. In other words some good bad and indifferent players were released and forced out to be replaced by good bad and indifferent players in much the same ratio. If you look at the table now and when Lambo was shafted, the inevitable conclusion is the current bunch are slightly worse over the season but might be on an upward curve now settled. With so many loans and surplus players the cycle is now on repeat again - with a group of maybe 5 or 6 players of the right calibre - length and fatness of contract will dictate if any duds and undesirables will move on I very much doubt Celina will be retained - nor any other loans. Depressingly there will probably be five more.
