So, in addition to Oscars and a Nobel Prize... 15:43 - Apr 11 with 1450 viewsPhilTWTD

...as per the thread below we can add the Schneider Trophy. Surely no other club has had a Schneider Trophy winner play for them as revealed (to me at least) in this blog:

Aneil Karia was a couple of years above me at school, not sure whether he is or isn't a town fan, but I'm 99% sure I saw his younger brother in Frankie & Bennys ahead of the Oxford game last week with a couple of others from the year below me at school.

Fantastic achievement though from (at the very least the brother of) one of our own, the short film available to watch on that link on the Guardian

Ed Sheeran has a squad number so can we add Grammies and Brit awards too?

Not to mention Steve Palmer 'is the only professional footballer of the modern era to be educated at Cambridge University, obtaining a degree in software engineering. Whilst studying he played for Cambridge University A.F.C. In April 1987 he played a single first-class cricket match for a Cambridge University side also containing future England captain Mike Atherton. Facing Lancashire, Palmer dismissed former England player Graeme Fowler lbw for 49. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Palmer_(footballer)

OK, it's not the Nobel Prize but I always wondered what Palmer's degree was and I thought I would share it.

A top bloke as well. I know his cousin (who’s also a top bloke).

Played in the same team occasionally as Phil Whelan, one of the few interesting accountants. Not many teams field two graduates, though Liverpool did with two somewhat higher profile players

Clive Baker also had a degree from that era, if I remember rightly.

Wow, I knew of Sidney Webster and the Schneider Trophy, of course, being into aviation but I had no idea he played for Ipswich Town.

That’s brilliant.

So, given Webster piloted the Supermarine S5 to victory in 1927 (the S6/6Bs were developments that won the trophy outright in 1931) and RJ Mitchell was the chief designer and his team took some of the design ideas on to develop the Spitfire, it’s fair to say Ipswich Town saved civilisation.

I think it should go in honours section of the match day programme.
