...schoolboy wins one

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2022/mar/27/riz-ahmed-wins-oscar-the-long-goodb

Aneil Karia was a couple of years above me at school, not sure whether he is or isn't a town fan, but I'm 99% sure I saw his younger brother in Frankie & Bennys ahead of the Oxford game last week with a couple of others from the year below me at school.

Fantastic achievement though from (at the very least the brother of) one of our own, the short film available to watch on that link on the Guardian

So if we were Norwich we’d be adding it to the honours list?

Town fan Frederic Raphael won an Oscar for best screenplay in 1965.

He was stood near me at the 1978 Semi-final.

He also referenced ITFC in his semi-autobiographical TV series The Glittering Prizes.

I have to admit, I've never heard of him but I was aware of his son, Paul Raphael, who is also in the film business, who is a Town fan and sneaked a reference to John Wark into a movie. If I remember rightly, at an Oscars in the film an award was given for The Legendary Johnny Wark or something along those lines.

Paul was the chap trying to film the crowd at Portman Road singing 'The referee's a rabbit' for a film he was making.

After a few minutes the North Stand were instead singing 'You can stick your effing rabbit up your arse'. Unknown to them, this was entirely appropriate for the subject of the film.

I'd have thought a scholar like yourself would have been familiar with Frederic Raphael's translations of Oresteia and the poems of Catullus.

Big fan of Aeschylus, obviously, but wasn't aware of his translation.

I had to do Catullus's love poems for Latin O Level

They were regarded as 'modern verse' when you studied them, though.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Our Latin teacher was 'Pup' Eaglesham. No idea why that nickname.

He was an Arsenal supporter.
