Turtle Doves 08:12 - May 17 with 1315 views | GeoffSentence | They are making an appearance now. First one of the year in this little patch of the Ipswich-Shotley-Sudbury Golden Triangle was perched on my neighbour's house this morning. Just waiting for a cuckoo now, though the previously resident cuckoo went awol a few years back and I only catch the odd one passing through now.

I hear a lot more stock doves than I see. They rarely venture into the gardens round here, but you can hear them in the woods frequently.

Likewise we've seen the first swifts doing their circuits around the garden. The robins are making a return and have seen a few Goldfinches as well. Saw my first wren this morning as well. All is good with the world coming into warmer times!

Turtle Doves on 11:11 - Jun 12 with 896 views | ElephantintheRoom | I have two pairs nesting in my garden. It’s almost turtle dove hunting season in my neck of the woods - and blackbirds and skylarks. Bit late for cuckoos. In June they change tune - July they fly away

So far as I could tell mine was a solitary male looking for a mate. Sadly I don't think my dove found love and he seems to have moved on.

One of the things I miss most since moving from the country was when I used to sit outside in the evening and the air above me would be full of the Housemartins that used to nest on our house. A nice cold one, warm evening and at one with nature, even the (then) wife struggled to spoil that.

I saw loads when I was out walking today; just me and the farmer.

As a child I had a house martin nest under the eaves just above my bedroom window. There were a few such nests on the houses round our way then, though ironically not on the house where the Martins lived, but it is decades since I have actually seen a house martin nest. Where do they all nest now?

Turtle Doves on 11:37 - Jun 13 with 642 views | Chondzoresk | Good to hear. Mellis area loads of Swallows, swifts screaming. Alas zero Turtle Doves. On the plus side the Grey Partridge is about in abundance. Barn Owls are doing well, several Little Owls. Saw my first Red Kite a month or so ago. Buzzards are two a Penny.

Good news today. Michael Dove is back, sitting on my chimney and making quite a bit of noise. Talking of firsts, I got my first sight of marsh harriers on Saturday, whilst sitting in a pub beer garden in Reedham, they were just gliding about a few yards away on the other side of the river without a care in the world.
